Dump Dorrell Movement Spreads Out To The East

While the guys over at DumpDorrell.com are working to place much anticipated ads in the Daily Bruin, looks like the word has gone out ... all the way to the East Coast:

Many thanks to one of our loyal readers who sent us that priceless shot. He is a graduate couple of grad programs at UCLA, but attended Williams College in Massachusetts for his undergrad. He tuned on to WWL's Game Day las Saturday, which was being broadcast from Williams College, and ended up being greeted by that shot involving his graduate school alma mater's Doofus football coach coming from the campus of his undergrad alma mater.

Of course big ups to the Bruin fans near the Game Day set who pulled this off. We sure recognize their efforts on BN. If you see more signs like this as we count down to the end of the KD hell in Westwood, please email them to us. While at the same time hopefully we will get to see the ads in the Daily Bruin.

Let's keep the pressure on.

GO BRUINS.

Utah
was the beginning of the end and Notre Dame, Washington State and Arizona were the middle and the finale. I wish DG would pull the trigger just so we can all move on.  There is no sense in even acknowledge the irrationale arguements of the few reamining Dorrellistas. Toast is toast and every week it just gets burnt a little more.

Dorrell is #3 on Coaches Hot Seat?
I'm not exactly sure how he could drop from #1 after another loss, at home no less.

Neither Weiss or Nutt have as many losses to underdogs this year than Dorrell (4). 3 out of 4 Arkansas losses have been to ranked teams, while Weiss has only been favored once (Navy) all year.

Blowout losses to underdogs are the hallmark of BAD COACHING!!

Also
Sticking with an offense that has never worked is the hallmark of BAD COACHING.

And there's more, of course.

The Message
is coming in from all over the country. Despite the morons who use the injury excuse and want to see a sixth year under CTS, DG and admin have to be all to aware of the building chorus. BN, DumpDorrell and everyone, keep up the pressure. Every time there is a DG sighting at the Oregon game, Dump Dorrell shirts need to crowd around. Make it top of mind.

It's pathetic is has to come to this. Expectations have been lowered for so many years and cemented in much of the popular mind set. My first year at ucla, the football program was horrible, finishing 3-7-1. I knew back then problems would continue for years given the culture and issues with the program. I have never been able to remotely grasp how ucla stands for excellence in all areas and programs except football. Donahue laid a problematic foundation that continues to this day.

There have been so many great posts about wanting to clean house and make a new start. I can't help but be somewhat pessimisted given the program's history, but my hope is that DG is finally in position to do right by this program as he has done with others. Once CTS is gone, the agenda immediately shifts to the next step; no more idiotic hires. I've e-mailed DG several times about this, he probably never gets them. The message needs to be clear though; No more Dorrells!!!!!!!!!!

Time To Move On
We have ranted and raved.  We have listened to promise after promise of improvement and working harder.  We have heard excuse after excuse (learning curve, the assistant coaches, the injuries, etc.).  Trying to argue against the few remaining Dorrellistas is an exercise in futility. Pleading the case to the decision makers in the Morgan Center and the beat reporters is getting redundant.  At this point either you get it or you never will.  Toast is toast.  Let's move on.

Oregon Game
12:30 UCLA Time and the game is going to be televised on ABC.  Normally, that would be a good thing but this year...

TV Games
I am screwed by the TV schedule again.  When they announce the game time less than 2 weeks before the game I can't get a cheap Southwest fare.  I am really screwed on this game because it is Thanksgiving Weekend and I can't use my Frequent Flyer awards.

Since it is unlikely I will make the game, would someone please extend my best wishes to Toast on my behalf.  I wish him all the best in his future endeavors as long as they have NOTHING to do with UCLA football.

Second thoughts
are occurring to me. I have been reading all the "Toast" and similar comments in a mellow glow of satisfaction, ever since DG broke his silence to say that he would be very interested in how we finished. Since it was almost a dead certainty at that time that we were going to lose at least the three final games, I assumed that the death knell of the Dorrell Era had been sounded. It now seems likely that we will lose all four of the games that remained, since we have no reliable offense and our defense has been shredded by, well, just about everybody except Notre Dame. But now it occurs to me that DG must have realized all that. So what was he saying? Did he really mean that his evaluation of Dorrell would be based on those remaining games, and not on his pitiful five-year record? If so, what conclusions is he drawing? What is he looking for? Can Dorrell lose all the games and still survive as long as we show up and play hard? Some of you really believe in DG, but I don't know what to think. So tell me how stupid I am being. I'll appreciate it.

No one
knows what DG is thinking. I wasn't all that comforted either by those comments you're referring to. Even if Dorrell somehow pulls a lucky, smoke and mirror, San Diego Charger-like victory (who are the NFLs version of the Bruins by the way) in both of the last 2 games, I still won't be 100% convinced that DG pulls the trigger, even after everything that has happened.

One things for certain: If Dec. 3rd comes and goes without a certain much-anticipated press conference, I believe the heat should be put directly upon DG.

A bit of P.R. advice...
I am in agreement with most of you that we need a new, more accomplished, experienced head coach for football. It seems that the end is near for the Dorrell era; and the athletic office/DG seems to be thinking that way too.

BUT... it's time to be a bit more careful with the insults and name-calling, OR there will be a massive sympathetic backlash. It's just the way public sentiment works. KD is a true-blue Bruin and a genuine gentleman of the highest order -- not some fast-talking schmuck like Lavin.

If there are too many nasty, personal insults directed at KD, a heckuva a lot of folks might just decide to support him out of sympathy and that good ol' American mentality of support for the underdog. KD is now clearly the underdog, so be careful not to gloat or insult at this point.

If you folks organize ads (newspaper or billboard) be sure to be respectful. You might even consider not mentioning KD. Simply say something like: UCLA really needs a new football coach...

Hey rich
The advice is fine, but the major premise is wrong.  There are no "personal attacks" on CTS that I know of here.  It's not a "personal attach" to point out the facts.  As I recall, anything said about him that was speculation or opinion has been identified as such.

I personally think he looks like Gladys Knight and Barry Bonds (with a smaller head than Barry, of course) but that's just my opinion and I have pointed it out.

I also am of the opinion that he fired a coach by way of a text message.  That whole issue was hashed out at length, and the known facts were laid out and discussed.

I am also of the opinion that he is the worst college football coach that I have ever seen (and that includes Bill Callahan and everyone else.)  I can articulate my reasons for that with the facts that unfortunately we all know only too well.

When it's factual, it's not an insult or name-calling.  Dizzy Dean said it's not bragging if you can do it.  I think CTS is pointing out that the opposite is true.

And if Dorrellistas get riled up, that's good.  Maybe they will come here to debate the issue.  I remain convinced that any UCLA-based Dorrellista (i.e., someone with enough intelligence to get into the school) will be drawn back from the dark side when confronted with the facts.  That's why I welcome Dorrellistas here.  It's sort of like being a missionary in a way.

End of rant.

by Fox 71 on Nov 12, 2007 7:20 PM PST reply actions

I agree
It's fine to point out the facts like the poor record, the ugly losses, the absurd play calls, poor decisions, inability to spot or develop talent, program going nowhere, etc...

BUT... those of us who agree that we need a new coach, need to be more prudent and not create a backlash amongst the fence-sitters. At this point, with KD being a massive underdog, the fence-sitters are liable to move toward supporting him if they feel there is too much bashing and name-calling -- it's a natural societal reaction. "Doofus" is one of the insults that comes to mind and was used in the original post.

To me, it's a foregone conclusion that KD's gone, so in terms of the 'court of public opinion' we should try to stick to the moral high ground when dealing with an underdog, an underdog who also happens to be a genuinely good guy.

Is he really gone?
Isn't there some horror movie series in which Freddy keeps getting killed but keeps coming back?

I won't believe he's gone until he's gone officially and finally and for good and for all time.  I want the stake completely through his heart, I want the coffin left outide in the sun, and whatever else you have to do to a vampire or whatever Freddy and his colleagues are.

by Fox 71 on Nov 12, 2007 8:12 PM PST up reply actions

In some way, yes but in some way
no because Dorell brought all these on himself.  All the transparent excuses he said sounded like insults to the collective intelligence of the Bruin fans.

Those fence sitters you alluded to must be grade school kids to ever succumb to this sort of mentality.

Is he gone?
I can not believe that. Who can tell me?

by ppomyyout633 on Nov 13, 2007 12:19 AM PST reply actions

The only person who can tell you is DG
and he ain't said nothin' yet.  CTS is still the head football coach and has a contract that runs for several more years.  (We had to give him the extension to make sure that no other team would grab him.)

The same guy who extended the contract has got to make the firing decision, and I will not believe that will happen until it has happened.

by Fox 71 on Nov 13, 2007 5:06 AM PST up reply actions

Is he or isn't he
gone? I am guessing DG feels there is very little to be gained, beyond providing immediate relief to the irate fan base, by making official what must be assumed is already a forgone conclusion. I think what we are getting from DG is exactly what you would expect.  He is playing his cards close to the vest most likely because he believes it is in the best interest of the current players and it allows him to do his preliminary search below the radar.  Rest assured, Toast is toast.
