Champions made HERE!
From the diaries. GO BRUINS. -N
I certainly hope you do not think of the current UCLA football situation when you see that title, but it is good to remember what kind of athletic program UCLA has, and the studs (male and female) who graced our campus.
I just saw this in one of my mailings and thought I would share it.
Inductees to be introduced at halftime of Nov. 10 UCLA-ASU football game.
Oct. 30, 2007
Eight new members will be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday night, November 8. Invitation-only ceremonies will be held in the Hall of Fame, located in the J.D. Morgan Intercollegiate Athletics Center, and in Covel Commons. In addition, the new inductees will also be introduced during halftime of the November 10 UCLA-Arizona State football game at the Rose Bowl.
The UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame was dedicated in 1984 with 25 charter members. The Class of 2007 brings the total membership to 215. The 2007 inductees are Amy Acuff, track and field; George Brown, track and field; Jennifer Brundage, softball; Jim Ferguson, water polo; Troy Glaus, baseball; John Moore, basketball; Jeff Nygaard, volleyball; and Keri Phebus, tennis. Please go here for further details and bios of each athlete.
Now one of the reasons I wanted to post this is that I went to school at the same time as some of these athletes. Jeff Nygaard was just a ridiculous stud, I saw him play a few times in Pauley and it was a treat. Jennifer Brundage was part of a dominating softball program. Keri Phebus just crushed her competition in tennis, it was absurd, I wish she had done better in the pros. Perhaps the Geezer Crew can chime in on the other athletes from years past.
And as for Amy Acuff...all I have to say is YOYOMA!!! We used to watch her practice at Drake, since the rowing team's gym is under the concrete bleachers at the end corner (if you haven't seen the Dungeon, you should check it out...if it's still there). It was impressive...then she did this. Wawaweewa! Well, no matter your view on that, she was a great athlete!
So, here's hoping that the football team doesn't embarrass us in that game because it would be a shame to take away from the accomplishments of these Bruins.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.
