Like Pavlov's Dog: Pom Pom Steps Up To Defend The Doofus

This was just a matter of time but still great news IMHO and it helps all of us in the Bruin Nation.

Pom Pom has joined the cult of Dorrell lovers, mounting a vigorous defense for the Doofus:

"I think he's done a fantastic job," Carroll said. "I think they have had the issues that can stagger a program with the quarterback situation that they have had, let alone other injuries that they have had."

Carroll ticked off the names of the teams across the nation that have lost their starting quarterbacks at times, including his own, and how they have all suffered.

"I think they have gone to a couple levels beyond where most teams go where you have to go to your backup quarterback," Carroll said. "To have to suffer through that back and forth, they found ways to win and created an opportunity to win when a lot of other teams wouldn't have. . . . He's found a way to keep his team together."

I asked, of course, just as you would, whether Carroll was praising Dorrell just to keep him around because it'd be the best thing for USC in the long run.

He said no, which is understandable after Dorrell's team cost the Trojans a chance to play for a national title last year.

"It's not a coach's fault guys get hurt," Carroll said. "It's almost too much to ask when things happen like that."

Carroll talked about the injury to John David Booty and how it affected the Stanford game, and the fact the Trojans had to take on Oregon with a backup quarterback.

"I think it's a fact [Dorrell] has been up against extraordinary odds," Carroll said, "and we understand what it's like."
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Oh the suffering!!! Can you feel the healing from the Humanitarian?!

Can you see the Angels coming down to save the Doofus?!

And yes I did spit coffee all over my laptop when I read that a little while ago.

Thank you Pom Pom. That assist was almost as pretty as an outlet pass from number 42.

GO BRUINS.

UPDATE: Just for the sake of old times here is a little flashback on other memorable crocodile tears:
Lute Olson, who has coached Arizona for 20 prosperous seasons, explained that Lavin is at a college where the tradition is so storied from Wooden's snaring 10 championships in 12 seasons in the 1960's and 70's that only a title is sufficient. Olson mentioned Andre Patterson's absence from an injured ankle and academic ineligibility, Evan Burns's departure to San Diego State and the loss of some early games as reasons the Bruins have fizzled.

''Steve is a quality guy,'' Olson said. ''That job is a next-to-impossible job. I don't know how many coaches they've had since Coach Wooden left, but the average tenure is about three years. So Steve has outlasted that.''
Poor poor Lute. Here is to a post on BN in coming years when we are going to be writing, "Poor Pom Pom," and shedding our tears over him. All we need is DG to fire the Doofus no matter what happens on Saturday and not listen to the clowns supporting an incompetent coach just like they did for the Cockroach during those dark years. GO BRUINS. -N

What else would you expect him to say
He's a liar by nature, to start with.  He's so used to it in dealing with all the scandals that it's second nature.

He can't tell the truth here.  He can't say that a CTS-"coached" team is the closest thing there is to a certain victory that he has ever seen.  He can't say that his job is made ten times easier because CTS is at the controls of his arch-rival.

ehhh
No bigger liar/spinmeister than CTS -- I dispensed with the Carroll-hating and kiddie-labels 3-seasons ago.

In fact, I was a HUGE fan of Hackett and Robinson II myself... I totally supported them during $C's "difficult years" and thought the Carroll hiring was a rash and rushed decision from an over-expectant administration and unrealistic fan base. I think Hackett and Robinson upheld the  finest traditions of USC Football and was truly sad when they were shown the door... weren't you?

GO BRUIN BLUE.

Ivan Maisel
Asked by Colin Cowherd this morning how long UCLA would wait to fire Dorrell after the USC game, Maisel said "right after he showered."

"I'll see you next Sunday."
I think that the more interesting point of this article was the Guerrero slip.  Hopefully this will bring us one step closer to a proven winner, regardless of Saturday's outcome.  As for Cheaty Petey, of course he's going to defend Dullard, he's got a non-threatening team as his rival school, how did we Bruins feel when Paul Hackett was the $UC coach?

Well, the TrOJans have considered it their
second home.  Even they know what a stinker the Mausoleum is to have for a home game.  If they actually DO move the the Rose Bowl for their home turf maybe we can get back to both teams weairng home colors for the game.

I'd like to see just how cordial Cheatey Petey woudl be on the other end of a losing record along with 66-19 and 52-whatever blowouts.  He can well afford to offer generous statements to Coach Toast.  We have to wait until Saturday to see if last years win was an anomoly.

Relax..
Mark,

This was tacked onto another thread. People gotta read the final paragraphs in that article:

"Rose Bowl manager Darryl Dunn said the venue's staff would seek an arrangement with USC officials, as long as UCLA agreed to it.

"'If it doesn't work for UCLA, it's not going to work for us,' he said.

"UCLA said in a statement it is willing to review such a proposal, but that protecting the integrity of the school's football program would be its top priority."

Protecting the integrity
of the football program? Since when? Surely not in the past 5 years when they allowed the Doofus to extend his reign of error.

by Tydides on Nov 28, 2007 10:44 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Obviously it's not going to work for
UCLA.  Everytime the TrOJans would set foot in the Rose Bowl as their home, the integrity of UCLA goes down.  Being a guest once every two years is one thing, especially when they get thrashed.  Having to endure the TrOJan appearances in the Rose Bowl Game is another.  Sharing OUR home with them again is entirely out of the question.

Ooooh you dirty rat....
Wonder why he would come to his defense?  Even more so than the apologists, PC would LOVE for KD to continue as HC.

by BlueReign on Nov 28, 2007 9:01 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Quite the comedian
Didn't Cheatie Petie tell DeWayne Walker NOT to join KD's staff because it would hurt his career? And now, KD's done an amazing job? Oh yeah, Petie's not a hypocrite or anything.

I mean, I don't expect a coach in the same conference to insult another one or criticize his coaching, but this is just pure comedy. Tell you what Petie...once UCLA fires KD, why don't you hire him as your Offensive Coordinator?!

KD and PC
As I have penned many times, my SC friends and acquaintances, who are the ones with names on the steps at the Galen Center and other recognitions for $$ donations, all want KD to have a lifetime contract at UCLA and they have told me in those words.

Not surprised
When your rival coach comes out and supports you, doesn't that really mean he wants Dorrell around forever because he's a bad coach?

Love the Lute quote
PRICELESS!!
"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

Example # 6,598,437
This is Example #6,598,437 why the print media is useless. They can't even recognize what is worthy of printing. "Coach says nice things about another coach to reporter" is as newsworthy as "Homeless guy on 6 Line blew his nose into his hand before exiting train." Scratch that, the homeless guy is more newsworthy.

Seriously. How can you report a positive comment by one coach to another coach as news?

I agree with Simers that Carroll would know whether Dorrell is doing a good job, but Carroll knowing and Carroll sharing his true opinion are not the same thing.

Fortunately in this case, all but the biggest dimwits (like Simers and 'SC grads) will understand that Carroll has reason not to be honest.

Are there any journalists left in this country?

Interesting
because in the daily news he is quotes as saying he could personally match up with either D Walker or K Dorrell. And he is also mentioned as saying the Rose Bowl is SUC's "second home"

He is a two faced ass. He is nice to the media and then when they are not around he is a total narcissistic Ahole.

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

Obvious
What else would one expect Pete Carroll to say.

a. Having Dorrell at UCLA gives the Trojans almost a "free pass" in the rivalry game. Even if there is a lucky upset every now and then, Pete Carroll does not have to face a tough competitor.

b. One coach is not going to downgrade a competitor when there are hard times. Even though it is a low probability event, if it were to happen that Pete Carroll faced tough times as a coach, he would want other coaches to "lay off" and be supportive.

What's he supposed to say?
Yea, DUH-rell sucks and gives us a free win every year, so fire his ass like he deserves and get a competent coach in there so I can have some real competition in recruiting.  Cheatey is probably DUH-rell's biggest supporter.
