[Apology Update!]Morgan Ctr. Lackie Rips UCLA Fan For Dorrell Email
Update: All hail the internets. Morrison apologizes. DumpDorrell has the latest.
I hope it is cool with the guys at DumpDorrell.com that I am posting a major chunk of this email exchange in which Don Morrison, the Athletic Department Faculty Representative, rips into a UCLA fan who sent him an email about Dorrell:

#####,
You are obviously not a bad guy--just an obsessed person with your self imagine overly tied to the won-loss of the football team [ed. note the scorn]. Clearly UCLA is a reputable university and Karl Dorrell is a thoroughly decent person. Nothing that can possibly happen in the next four games will cause a mid season firing. You should also know that the academics in the football program have never been better and the character issues that were so prevalent in the Toledo era have vanished. Of course to the DumpDorrell.Com people academics and character are totally trumped by what happens on Saturday [ed. wrong, we never said that].
I probably should not have responded to you, but in a sense I feel sorry for you. That said, Chancellor Block, Dan Guerrero and Pete Blackman will never respond so you may as well quit trying.
Don Morrison

Donald,
Thank you for response. I considered taking you off of my list, however, your response made me aware of your unique position within the university athletic department. Your position as Faculty Athletic Representative makes you the exact person I want to deliver my message to. As a public employee and a representative of the UCLA athletic department you are in position to affect change, and we all expect you to do so.
In the trailing E-mail you have stated that I am unreasonable. Please clarify how it is reasonable for the UCLA administration to hire Karl Dorrell as the Head Football Coach? Karl Dorrell did not have the required experience or qualifications to be hired as UCLA's Head Football Coach. Would you expect UCLA to hire someone with no experience or qualifications to hold your position? If the answer is no, please explain why the UCLA Head Football Coach is held to a lower standard? Please do the right thing and Fire Karl Dorrell and replace him with a qualified and experienced Football Coach.
DD does good work of responding to this jerk:
Don Morrison is Exhibit A why UCLA football has been mired in mediocrity. Set aside the fact that he has been unprofessional in responding to a fan inappropriately as a representative of UCLA. That alone is problematic. With regard to our football program Don Morrison shows the kind of intransigence and scorn for the public that has guided the horrible decisions we have been living with for 3 decades, the kind of intransigence and scorn that was Peter Dalis' calling card. What Don Morrison and his kind in Morgan Center and Murphy Hall don't seem to get is that they are on the brink of losing Bruin football fans for a very long time, as we have discussed. The lag on fans returning after being fed lies for far too long can be many many years (as we know in basketball) ... long enough to negatively impact our other athletic teams. Morrison probably thinks this years record season ticket sales say otherwise. Just wait until next season comes and ticket sales drop enormously because Notre Dame isn't on the schedule and because Dorrell made fans tune out. It will be a long time before those fans come back. Read the full post here.People wonder how these jokers have been living in a bizzarro world devoid of reality.
I can only hope our AD has the common sense that guy failed to exhibit.
What an utter embarrassment.
I am ashamed that guy is a "faculty" at UCLA.
Go Bruins!

Wow
Mr. Morrison, sir, you are a jackass. He could have deleted the email, if he wished. Intead, he was unprofessional and a jerk.
Dan Guerrero may not read my emails, or letters, but if Dorrell is still kicking around next year, he won't be reading any dollar signs from my account, either.
Is everyone at UCLA so clueless? Or are they all in the cult?

What is Morrison's Academic Position?
We demand academic excellence, achieve sports excellence (First to 100) in all places other than football.
Finally, Morrison ought to know that many of us have longer and deeper connections than his and his rude responses do not represent the University well.

That Makes My Point
And, it is clear that no faculty would retain a teacher whose body of work was so undistinguised.
So, the real question for Morrison is whether his department, or his wife's has granted tenure to an unqualified, nationally recognized failure like KD. I'm sure they have not.
BTW -- I always get a kick out of the "he cleaned up Toledo's mess" BS. Toledo's program was not dirty within the Pom Pom sense. Toledo did not hire felons (and again, I see nothng wrong with hiring Scott -- but for those who care, it is "dirt" within the program). And, no one accused Toledo of holding back key information about a prospective coach in the manner that some believe KD did.
This, "he's cleaned up the program" BS is the only thing positive they can say about KD, and I'm not sure it is true.

Ivory Tower Pinhead
That is just so wrong. There are any number of schools, including UCLA, where intelligent and upstanding student athletes can be recruited and coached up to success.
Coach John Wooden defined success as "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable"
Does any objective observer really think that the football team has shown that they are the best they are capable of being? If not, then we need to point the finger squarely at the coaching staff.

I was thinking maybe the original message was somehow inflammatory, but it wasn't at all.

MORRISON
Morrison is the embodiment of the self-righteous, short-dicked professor who can't stand the sight of himself in the mirror. HE is the reason you can't have PINHEADS running a football program.
THIS IS INDEED WHY WE SUCK.

As Opposed to --
This is painful -- it reminds me of why I walked away from life time job security (the life of a tenured law professor) to live in the real world.
Morrison is the poster boy for the effete intellectual who, instead of arguing substance, plays the rank and class cards.
Sorry, most of us can play on your level and can't be put down by name calling.
Try beating us on the substance.
Or, is that too hard for your closed mind?
