Really funny...NOT

So Deadspin picks up on a "story" of an Asian-American Bruin band member named Brian Suksomwong.  Evidently this is the funniest name of all time.  Well, its not that funny, in my humble opinion.

I think the folks at deadspin need to get a life.  We all know sc fans will pick up on this with their UCLA monikers refering to the majority of students being Asian.

Whatever.  Right now with the coaching search going the way it is this is the LAST thing I want to see being bantered about on the sc boards.  Maybe if Pedersen actually comes around we can have the last laugh and they may actually stop being so proud (or is it arrogant??...hmmmm...).

Anyway I thought about providing a link, but you'll just want to trust me its not a very flattering "story" and probably won't make your Saturday morning.

I like deadspin usually, but this time they need to get a life and leave us alone (at least until Pedersen is hired).

GO BRUINS!
Evdently I still don't have 200 words so I will just write some more until I do.  There that should do it.

GO BRUINS!

I know him
He graduated about 2.5 years ago and since then he has changed his last name to his mother's maiden name (not because of his old name, however)

I gotta say
that the name is kind of unfortunate. and a little bit funny...
A Bruin is a Bruin, regardless.

A good friend of mine knew a nice couple --
Harry and Rosie Tuch.  He swears that's true.

I don't know if they were Bruins.

C'mon now
This is a nothing of a story that will quickly succumb to the short attention span of the blogosphere.  In any event, if it wasn't a Bruin, I'm sure the adolescent in all of us would find the name amusing.  I'm sure this isn't the first time Brian S. has had to deal w/ someone chuckling upon hearing his name.

Deadspin's just doing what Deadspin does.  Let's not get our panties in a bunch just b/c the guy is wearing a Bruin uniform.

And if this is the best that USC could do to mock us, then they really aren't paying attention to the bumbling around of the administrators in the athletic department the last few weeks.

Agreed
It could have been worse. The kid's name could have been something like Harry Dong (a real name from state of CA as shown on Lettermen few years ago) or Vajina Johnson (I believe she appeared on Oprah).

So it could have been much worse!

What does
Buck Naked have to say about all of this?

Well I'm sure Brian has built up enough character to brush off silly remarks like Deadspin's.

My English 185 Professor
Told us he had a childhood friend who's parents didn't want children, so they were quite underwhelmed when they discovered his impending arrival.

They named him Frank N. Stine.

I remember another one.
There is or was a woman out there whose first name (on her complaint anyway) was Kay and her last name was Sera.  I don't think anyone else had ever heard of Doris Day at the time, so the reference was lost on those Philistines.

If anyone remembers...
the 2003-2004 bball season and the long-haired band member that would wildly jump up and down in front of the opposing team's charity strip attempt, that was Brian.

Poor guy, but it is funny.
Speaking of unfortunate names, though, has anyone else ever seen the sign that hung in the University Research Library commemorating Mr. Hugh G. Dick?  I think they might have since taken the sign down, but it was definitely up (albeit hidden) the whole time I was at school.

by London on Dec 17, 2007 3:55 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I forgot about that!
I think my sophomore year, they re-named it after Charles Young.  Mr. BB and I were having a convesation about the research library with his sister over Thanksgiving weekend.
