CoachesHotSeat Update

Hard to disagree with the sentiments posted over at the CoachesHotSeat Blog:

UCLA - This has been another coaching search full of leaks.  Next thing I am going to read in the LA papers is that Dan Guerrero has gone to the bathroom and on his way back to his office he took a call from another coach that wanted to talk about the UCLA job.  Are these LA reporters camped out in Guerrero's office, or is there someone at UCLA who calls up these reporters every time someone makes a move on the coaching search front?  Why the people at UCLA feel the need to broadcast their every move is beyond us, but these are also the people that immediately eliminated from consideration the one and only guy that wants the job that also fits everything that Guerrero wants in a new head football coach.  That coach is Texas Tech's Mike Leach.  We are not quite sure why Leach was removed from consideration so quickly, it could have been pressure from the Pac-10 office who hate Leach's honesty, or it could have been that Guerrero doesn't want a head football coach that will actually stand up and tell you what he is thinking.  As for the candidates that have been mentioned by the LA papers, DeWayne Walker, Norm Chow, and Rick Neuheisal, we cannot help but say, WHAT?  None of these guys remotely fit the parameters that Dan Guerrero outlined in the press conference after the firing of Karl Dorrell, and as for what the Champions across town at Heritage Hall think of the above 3 men.....Wait, the USC people are laughing hysterically as they imagine facing off with any of these guys in the coming years.  UCLA should be hiring a proven head coach that has won on the Division I-A level, and if they hire one of these other guys and it doesn't work out, Dan Guerrero is going to find that no matter how many championships you pile up in other sports, no one gets a 3rd chance to hire a football coach.  We will be watching with great interest the rest of this UCLA coaching search, because up to this point it has been a great disappointment.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Is Anyone Else Concerned....
About this John Harbaugh nonsense?

When I first heard his name, I figured it was misinformation or a smokescreen or whatever. But to read that he actually had an interview? That makes me nervous.

Is it even possible that he could be DG's guy? Seems so unlikely, but has me worried nonetheless.

It is inconceivable
DG is neither brave enough nor stupid enough to hire anyone less qualified than CTS was when he was hired or when he was fired.

Uh oh!
What is monumentally troubling is this report characterizes the search as fraught with press leaks. The only consolation in all of this depressing affair is that, somehow, Guerrero is operating in the shadows, below the radar and that his announcement will stun those of us who are skeptical. If that's not the case, then it really is, as Nestor describes it, kabuki theater.

..more aptly: the Keystone Cops.

Why not make the FARCE complete
and put Dorrell's name on the "list"?

I know that Harbaugh's little brother, 60 year old career Offensive Coordinator, 2 year mediocre Defensive Coordinator, and twice-fired alumnus are not really the the top, and apparently the only, choices for UCLA Head Football Coach.

OK, very funny, you got us Dan.  That was a good one, pretending we're going after a bunch of losers as a smokescreen.  A real "misdirection" play!  Now, when are you going to announce Chris Petersen's hiring?

Jay Norvell
The offense would've been great if not for those players! Jay Norvell deserves an interview at least.

Funny
Norvell has basically disappeared. His name never comes up for anything. Nada. Zip. Zilch. He must feel like such a loser in that locker room. I wonder what Walker is telling him to do for the BYU game..."dude, if you run up the middle on first down, I will pummel you."

IF that happened...
... money would be on DW.

Sorry, but sometimes the dude looks so p*ssed  he could bite through nails.  Yeesh.

WTF!?!?!
I want to know why guys like Terry Bowden and Mike Leach aren't even getting an interview.  These guys have head-coaching experience and expressed interest in the job.  I don't care if they're not at the top of any body's list but they should have at least gotten more consideration.

This coaching search is turning into a complete fuck up.  Dan Guerrero is fucking this search up about as bad as he can.  I apologize for the foul language.  I am completely pissed off.  5 years of complete mediocrity; he does the right thing and fires the head-coach.  He says all the right things during the press conference.  Then he goes out and sticks his head in the sand.

I don't know if UCLA will ever get it right about football.  Maybe it is over Dan Guerrero's head.  Everyone involved in screwing this puppy up should be held accountable when it is all said and done.

And just so everyone knows what should already be known by now.  The DAMN internet "fans" that loved Dorrell and are now falling over themselves for D. Walker / Chow, and to a lesser extent Neuheisal are a MINORITY.  Loud and annoying, but believe me they are by no means the voice of most Bruin fans.  I talk to a lot of people wherever I go; I'm often wearing a UCLA shirt.  Most people are not liking the direction this is headed.

Go Bruins!

Facts
I don't think we should get all worked up over these stories.  The reason I love BN is because everything is fact based.  We have yet to hear anything from a reliable source which indicates that the "CHOKER" combo is a serious consideration.  Also, I don't understand why everybody wants DG to openly say "We want to interview [insert name here] on [insert date]."  That just wouldn't make sense because it could hurt the chances of landing that coach.  Maybe DG is planning on hiring Mendenhall but can't do anything until after the bowl game.  The point is that everything is speculation at this point and we shouldn't get too worked up about it.
