The Reason for Our Loss

I actually thought about taking a trip out to West Virginia few weeks ago. But given what Dohn wrote (discussed below) and this, clearly we had no shot at a victory on Saturday. Ladies and gentlemen in case you were wondering why our players looked a little distracted on Saturday:

No wonder our players were ... uh ... a little flummoxed?

HT to a reader who sent us that monstrosity.

GO BRUINS.

Oh God
I clicked on it...

We really need to win again, if only to shake that image out of my mind.

West Virginia
Beautiful State.

Scary Fans.

Observations
All their cheerleaders are barefoot. All 30 of them.

This fat guy is well over 300 lbs. He looks like that Nebraska inflatable mascot. But there he is; dancing shamelessly in front of thousands of people.  I have enough respect for Beilein that he recruited the kid to create dead spots on the floor.

Thanks
...for the comic relief.  We have to keep these things in perspective.  Even our 1995 team lost a couple games.  This year's team is great fun to watch and will be so for years to come.

Did anyone else see
the cheerleader that looked like she was 12? I mean, not a real kid, but a real cheerleader. Scary.

All I could think about...
whenever the camera panned that crowd was the hillbilly kid in Deliverance playing the banjo.

Props to their fans for the intimidating home-court advantage, but I'll be damned if I ever find myself in West Virginia.

No more complaints about the Juggler
Ever. Not after this ocular assault. Perhaps the only thing more offensive than this is SUC's band playing their one stupid song over and over again, whether or not something good is happening to their team.

I'm sorry
Didn't doing the YMCA at games become stupid and lame in 1986?  This is something I would expect the 65-year old alumni to come up with (no offense to you guys, but let's admit here you're not the hippest crowd).

But the student section?  That's the most engaging thing you could come up with?  Yikes.

Maybe lame in 1996?
b/c I remember the band at Pauley doing it in 1995, only we'd substitute U-C-L-A in the chorus.

Whoa...
I thought after Rick Majerus left Utah that he went into broadcasting?  I guess not...

Damn
What's the Syracuse mascot doing wearing a yellow shirt and cheering at a WVU game?

by skippynow on Feb 12, 2007 5:04 PM PST reply actions

Mascot
I thought the WV mascot was the Mountaineer, not the Mountain!
Go Bruins!!!

Commentin' ain't the same as hatin'
I don't think anyone here at BN hates the Mountaineers.  They played a good game, and beat us fair and square.  No excuses.

But comments on the ridiculousness of certain aspects of the fans (and of the players and the game) are by no means out of bounds.  My waistline is nothing to write home about, so I'm not going to speak ill of that gigantic tub of lard who thought his dancing was something people would like to see.  But if this guy had a real Mountaineer for a friend, he would have been told not to come out of the blimp hangar without a bed spread, er, shirt on.

That's you in the video isn't it?
LOL!

Don't worry big man, I'm sure someone in the crowd appreciated your show. The YouTube audience...that's another story.

Blame this on my agent
He told me it was a sure way to get on Dancing with the Stars.

Actually, the guy was a lot smoother
than some cheerleaders I've seen.  But there was that one move toward the end ....  That may have been a felony.
