Bruins Beat Weber State 70-42: Post-Game Thread

Now that was therepeutic. We needed that.

Dare I say...the Bruins got their mojo back.

I know it was only Weber State. But this was the exact kind of confidence builder that the Bruins needed as the competition ramps up going into the round of 32. The reserves got some quality minutes, DC's ankle looks to be OK, Roll hit a couple of nice 3's, and our fearless leader led the way with 22 and 8.

Here are the recaps from YahooSports.com, DSPN, CBS Sportsline,

Photo fromYahooSports.com

Let's keep the MOJO flowin'.

And for the cherry on top, VCU beats Duke! (Any regrets Mr. Singler?) Yeah, I had VCU in my bracket.

This is your post-game thread. Indiana or Gonzaga?

Go Bruins!

Indiana- 28 Gonzaga-23
biggest lead of the game for either team. This one's going down to the wore. How about a 5 OT game to wear the winner out?

Anyone know the time for Saturday?
I have to meet with my wedding florist.

As for who I would prefer to play next round, I say Indiana.  I know they came in kind of hot, but I have to feel that Gonzaga will have this little thing called a revenge factor.  How many times will they see Farmar pickpocketing Bautista, then Luc-Richard's shot and half court steal?

Doesn't really matter.  To be the champs, you need to face down all adversity.

By the way A
Good job taking VCU.  I would have done it too had I had the time to fill out a bracket.

I didn't know Duke lost until I got home from Brew Co.

UCLA
I could tell we'd win even during the first 5 minutes, before we broke the reigns....

That's why he changed into Ced Bozman's old jersey.

Mojo
We looked (or sounded) really good today.  I won't say that we got our mojo back until we get a quality win (i.e. IU or the Zags).

by diehardbruin on Mar 15, 2007 7:52 PM PDT reply actions

Indy Gonzaga
Its kind of a scrappy game with no real flow.  I'd take either now, as Ravio is the only player stepping up, and Indy is hitting 3s that we could cover.

Go Wright State!

Vaya con dios.

I don't want the Hoosiers
They're tough in the low blocks, and Sampson is one hell of a coach.  I know we'd beat 'em, but their strength is our weakness.  We'd dominate guard play and win the game by ten, but we'd kick the shit out of the Zags.

Either way, we're gonna get it done the next game.  I have good feelings about this team

Go Bruins.

No time set yet
It will either be 2:40 pm PT or 5:10 pm PT. I would guess the latter since UCLA-Indiana is a pretty attractive matchup. More so than Wazzu-Vandy.

Geez, Mr. BB was right
What was Duke thinking not taking a time out?

by bruinbabe2000 on Mar 15, 2007 9:11 PM PDT reply actions

It was a good win...
We got back in the flow...We opened up the rotations, played a few more guys, locked down on defense, and hit the open shots.

I will just say this once...If we lose because you guys changed the mojo, I will never forgive you.  Old School Austin got us to the title game, and now you guys change it up.

Be very careful, Bruins Nation.

From a non-fan of Mike Myers
I don't want to start another thread about what's funny and what's not.  This is about mojo.

We do not need or want mojo that will only get us to the title game.  We need stronger mojo than that.  We need a juju man* who can get us through the title game with a banner to bring back to Westwood.  Hence, last year's mojo is stale.

Or as we used to say back in your parents' generation, last year's mojo was bad karma.

*Read the LeCarre books about George Smiley to learn what a juju man is in this context.

by Fox 71 on Mar 15, 2007 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Not to debate anything
But I'm superstitious as hell.  If anything, the mojo makes me smile.  I remember seeing the open thread for Gonzaga last year, and I cracked up.

And Fox, I came across a question you asked that I hadn't answered.  The big day is May 12.  Nestor has promised to help with uploading pictures here.  One of the things I really want to do is get a picture with all of the UCLA alumni who are there.  I'm anticipating we will have at least 12.  The pictures will probably go up about a month after the wedding since I will be globe trotting for about three weeks (London, Paris, home to LA, Alabama for a few days to apartment and job hunt, then home to LA).

by bruinbabe2000 on Mar 15, 2007 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions

agreed...
Myers bugs the hell out of me as well. I also think we need MORE than what we've used in the past. Are we HAPPY with the ultimate result of last year?

HELL NO.

We need MORE. We need another banner.

If anyone can supply a live hen or a recently dead cat I know people that can make things happen.

If you can deliver the winners nets from last year in a brown paper bag, with a twelve pack of Sierra Nevada and some Rum, I can practically guarantee a win.

LeCarre
Huge fan of his, enjoyed the hell out of the George Smiley books. Alex Guinness(sic) was perfect as Smiley.

by artybruin on Mar 16, 2007 7:08 AM PDT up reply actions

Way OT here, but who cares?
The second series on BBC ("Smiley's People") had the best performance in it that I think I've ever seen, and it's Bernard Hepton as Toby Esterhazy.  Check it out.  (Literally, it's in most libraries, so check it out.)

I'm sure that George Smiley was a Bruin in fact.

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 10:44 AM PDT up reply actions

LeCarre
I recorded both Tinker, Tailor.....& Smiley's People on VHS tape when they aired many, many years ago.

Now I have them both on DVD. A lot of really great performances in the 2 movies including Bernard Hepton as Toby.

I'm not as old as you, but I'm close enough to  faintly make you out in the distance.

Glad there is at least one more LeCarre fan out besides me.

by artybruin on Mar 16, 2007 3:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I just watched Smiley's people again
fairly recently.  It's really worth watching.  I had an advantage having read the book and having seen Tinker Tailor.  Hence, I didn't have to figure out quite as much as I went along.  Like what the lamplighters are, or all the politics of things.

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 6:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Good Reading-both books
Makes the movies much easier to follow. Being I rec'd my DVD of Smiley's People right after Xmas, I went back and watched TTSS just to refresh. Watched the other one on a rainy lazy Saturday.

Thanks for sharing,

Go Bruins!!!

The middle one in that trilogy
was The Honourable Schoolboy.  I have to say that was too murky for me.  (Except I'm now working on a case for a client with one of the names from that book, and I wonder if he's telling me all there is to tell.  Hmmm.)

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I read it and
Agree.

I think they didn't make a movie of it because I don't think a decent screenplay could have been made of it.

by artybruin on Mar 16, 2007 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Indiana...
Not a great team but 2nd round is 2nd round. Last year's 2nd round game was really, really tough. I doubt this one will be any easier. Looking forward to it.

No offense to Weber, but they have an RPI of #143. It really wasn't a test for this team. So I can't take a whole lot away from it, except its just a warm-up to the real deal.

by njbruin on Mar 15, 2007 9:56 PM PDT reply actions

Okay....
Indiana it is...

And pray to God I can watch the game. I feel AWFUL that my lack of viewing is directly responsible for our losses.

Then again, every Superbowl winner in my LIFETIME has been the team I rooted against. So maybe I feel worse about that one... Nah. (As you might have guessed, I'm a leetle bit superstitious.)

BB, congrats on picking the big day. Let's hope that a conversation starter during the reception is how great the run to banner #12 was.

GO BRUINS!!

Indiana is a touhger team than the Zags
but UCLA should still beat them. Not too impressed with the Hoosiers. Nothing really stood out as something the Bruins cannot handle.

I agree
Especially after seeing LoMa, Luc and Aboya play so well yesterday, we should be fine.

It's way early, but
a huge upset in the making, WISCONSIN down big in the first ten minutes!!!  Hopefully it means the big ten really does suck and we go to the 16!
Go Bruins, Go Howland, F-Lavin, and let's get rid of Dorrell....
