Glory Days

Well ladies and gentleman. I like many of you here am deeply superstitious when it comes to my Bruins. I am sure you all remember I posted this last Friday following the depressing loss against Cal and look how the Bruins responded in their next game.

And if you want to go a little further back, I posted this on December 1, and you all know what happened on December 2nd. Well why stop now?

Here is to hoping the Glory Days continuing here on BN.

Enjoy the Madness if you are glued to the tube or your computer. This is our Friday night open thread.

Let's keep it rocking now.

GO BRUINS.

Notre Dame goes down
Wisconsin next?  I am all for upsets in games that do not involve Bruins.

by Barnes2JJ on Mar 16, 2007 1:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I Am Too
As long as they're on my bracket! I've got them all right except for stupid Marquette losing. Besides that, I've got 'em all so far.

I hope Wisconsin can hang in there.

by BruinFan1 on Mar 16, 2007 1:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

My bracket is pretty busted
so I am pretty much just hoping for upsets to make the road easier for our boys at this point.

But, I am getting ahead of myself:  One game at a time!

by Barnes2JJ on Mar 16, 2007 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Didn't have Wisconsin making it out of the weekend
I would sacrifice one point on my brackets for the 15-2 upset.

by bruinhoo on Mar 16, 2007 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?
Just curious, why?

by bruinbabe2000 on Mar 16, 2007 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nothing serious
I guess just that I haven't been that impressed with the Badgers. if a 2-15 is going to happen, it might as well be them.

Besides, as the only person in my pool with the Bruins going all the way, I could afford the 1 point loss :)

much better glory days video

Pulp
How did Jarvis Cocker get out of his apartment? I'd heard he had some sort of mental breakdown.

Also, why does every song by Pulp sound like 'Common People'?

Tennessee blows out Long Beach St.
I was pulling for the 49ers since my mom, brother, aunt, uncle, and three of my cousins went there.

What a great tournament!!!
One & Done:

ND - out
TTech - out
Duke - out

Now if Justsc can also flame out, all will be well in the first round.

by artybruin on Mar 16, 2007 2:15 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Didn't know about T Tech
Very cool.  Not holding my breath on Southern Cal.  I'd love to see them get run over by Texas again, but the sooner they are out, the better.

They've got the dreaded 12 coming up
Sure, Arkansas didn't do much in the regular season, but they made it to the SEC final (which isn't saying THAT much, but it is something) and 12 seeds actually have had a winning record over 5's in the last 10 years. 11s are do better in this tournament though, but let's hope Arkansas can keep those Trojans out of the second round.

by sfatoo on Mar 16, 2007 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I Got
SC beating Texas.

I know, I know. I want SC to lose quickly too and it is quite conceivable that they will get beat by Arkansas. If it happens, I wouldn't be shocked at all.

By the time March Madness is done, we all look like morons when you look at our brackets and see what actually happened. So don't give me too much grief.

by BruinFan1 on Mar 16, 2007 2:27 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Biting the bullet
In my pool, it was pull the team names out of a hat at $5.00 each.  I had a #12, a #14 and both of those teams should have just mailed it in.  They were embarrassed.  Now the #5 I have is justsc.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I hope they don't just lose, I'm hoping for the first shut out in tournament history.  That would be good.  86-0 has a nice ring to it.

So I know this - it's not worth $5.00 to me to root for justsc.  Frankly, I doubt if there is enough money in the world, but we'll never really know.

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 2:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm tempted
to offer another hypothetical based on your last comment, but I am still laughing at your wish for the first shutout in tournament history.

I second that motion.

by Barnes2JJ on Mar 16, 2007 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nothing wrong with a shutout
In fact, 77-0 will be acceptable.

Fox
You're ruthless! Poor little Tommy Trojan is crying in his iron skirt right now.

Hell, I'm suprised USC athletes knew what to do with a ball that wasn't brown and oval in shape.

The Oregon Game is Too Close
We need a Pac 10 win here because we know sc will lose.

And, I'm going to root against the "standard".

Fuck you Lute for your comments about how successfully you recruit against us and our "dull" game.

You don't think D isn't important? I hope you get shut out, too.

How about it 71? Two shut outs?

Oregon wins by 2
Unbelievable.

I am with you on a shutout of Arizona.  I can't stand Lute and the Mildcats.

8 for 8 so far
only missed one game so far (I had Marquette over MSU).

the standard is down by 11
But they sure like to run and shoot.

Too bad that doesn't win games.

The Commentators Got it Right
On why Az was behind:

"They love to run, they love to jump, they love to shoot -- but they don't love to play defense. And you can't win without playing defense."

Yes, Lute, you keep recruiting people who love to run, jump and shoot and won't play D.

Just got back and haven't checked the scores
Is Zona getting shut out?  That would be nice.

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And is Zona wearing the stupid costume
The one that is too tight and too loose, so the average is just right.

Arizona is awful
this will be really bad for their recruiting....

Arizona
The Wildcats played horribly.  Their performance in the 2007 tournament was a disgrace to the Pac-10.  Marcus The Mouth should be tremendously ashamed of himself and his team.  They deserved to lose.

My bracket's blown
but at least I'm 5-5 on the P10.  My 6th pick: SC goes down.

Random thoughts
I got 25/32 right in my bracket so far, not great, not horrible I suppose.   My biggest problem, I have UCLA beating Villanova in the Elite 8.  Oops.  I guess UCLA will have to beat Kansas instead.

So I was watching the game at Arco Arena yesterday, at the very top of the opposite side of the arena from the Bruin Bench, so I didn't see what happened before Mata changed his jersey.  They announced it in the arena because he came out wearing number 21.   Then when the cheerleaders all came out in their #21 jerseys, it finally made sense for once this year.

At the next break after the Gonzaga band came out and sat in the section next to them, the UCLA pep band played the song Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas.  Yes, the one that goes "there'll be peace when you are done, lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more."

I was chatting with an Indiana fan during the games.  He asked me if I took Indiana in my bracket.  I plead the fifth. I asked him what happens when Indiana is successful, or what it takes for Indiana to go on a run - he said it's when #10 hits his three point shots and they get a good inside-outside game going with #3.  Hopefully we won't see that Saturday.

I was kind of disappointed in my fellow fans.  Maybe it was hard to tell because I was behind the Weber State seats, but it sure didn't feel like we had a home court advantage.  You don't get that by sitting on your hands and not cheering the whole game which I saw a lot of in my section.

I'm looking forward to some great games tommorrow and if you are at Arco, please be loud -  I will be.

F*@& $C
We have to win tomorrow.  They act like they are going to FF just because they beat a sorry ass SEC team that was undeserving of a 12 seed.  AA2, Mata, Keefe and even Ryan Wright better make sure dj white picks up his 4th foul early in the 2nd half.  Watching Timmeh glow in the postgame reminds me of how significant a Pac-10 championship is in Football this year.  Pink is a hack, a used-car salesman and should not be doing any better than ANY coach at UCLA.  KD take notes.  Pete C. is out of your league, your main comp is TF.

Thanks for the support...
Bball at $C is an after-thought.  Football at UCLA is  heading down the same path.  Comparing Timmeh and his crew to BH and our boys is ridiculous.  Obviously my neighbors are silly, and tomorrow will prove them so.  Tim (Pink, TF)Floyd is a lower tier coach and hearing him gloat during his post-game press conference was irritating.  I think that our football program should be light years ahead of where their bball program is, and my semi-coherent comments reflect that.  Obviously not everyone was able to see that.  Thank you to my Bruin brothers for the assist in my defense.  Back to our blue and gold party....

A word of advice to the neighbors
"Act like you've been there befo-" oh wait, I guess they HAVEN'T been there before. They just discovered that basketball existed a month ago. Their celebration of a first round non-upset says more about their program then you ever could on this website.

Getting a little antsy...
...that a "weak Pac 10" team might come out and show up the Horns? I can understand that you'd be a little grouchy what with your next opponent having an easier time with their opponent than you did with yours.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be rooting for UT, but now it'll be strictly an anti-SUC thing.

by Tydides on Mar 16, 2007 10:45 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I second Ty's comments
Rooting for justsc's opponent comes naturally most of the time.  Now I'll just root against justsc.  Maybe it makes no difference in the cosmic scheme of things, but it makes a difference to me.

Why post that kind of stuff here?  Find some justsc site to do it on.  Sheesh!

by Fox 71 on Mar 16, 2007 11:05 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The original poster responded appropriately
He said he was trashed. . .

This kind of hyper-defensive "Now I'm just anti-SUC instead of pro-UT" posting is just silly.

I don't expect you to root FOR Texas, anyway. You're a UCLA fan.

Our young team will live or die based on their ability to cope with SC's physical perimeter defense. I like our chances, and think the Trojans were too highly seeded. I'm just saying: what's wrong with rational discourse? Why must everything be a pissing contest?

by HornsFan on Mar 17, 2007 12:03 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seems to me
that rational discourse starts the way your last post started, not the way your first one started.  That first one seemed to be just like you wanted to start a fight rather than a discussion.

For your info, I have rooted for Texas many times (seeing as how you've played justsc many times.)

Anyway, it's too late for rational discourse for me.  An alka seltzer and to bed

by Fox 71 on Mar 17, 2007 12:14 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't see anything wrong with it
Just because my rooting interest is ALWAYS with the Bruins doesn't mean that I can't also get behind other teams. In my mind, there IS a difference between rooting for a team and simply rooting against another.

Your tone was antagonistic, and apparently I was not the only one who felt this way, so I responded in kind. Not sure how that makes me "hyper-defensive" (instead of just plain old defensive, hyperbole makes people look "just silly"). If you didn't want a pissing contest, you probably shouldn't have posted an antagonistic throwaway comment.

I'll just say this: people that come on the internet and try to be the grammar police usually aren't out looking for "rational discourse".
