I'd like to see Oregon win
It'd be nice to put at least 2 Pac-10 teams through to the Sweet Sixteen.

And, yeah, I'll be cheering for Texas, even if a certain someone thinks we're offensively challenged paper tigers....

Hook'em anyway.  ;)

He did say that his bracket
Has probably assured us of #12 for basketball, #100 overall.

I have found a growing fondness for Texas.  I have a few friends who are Texas Exes and they are among the nicest people you will ever meet.  Beating Southern Cal, just icing on the cake.

When I went to visit Mr. BB last month, I changed planes in Houston.  As I was leaving one terminal to take the monorail to the other terminal, I passed by a shop that was displaying the Longhorns as the 2006 national champs.  I smiled, took out my camera phone, I sent it to my brother who sympathizes with Southern Cal (even though they lost his transcript when he applied).

Hook 'em Horns!

Don't get me wrong
I like Texas a lot.  Almost went there for law school.

And I think that BON is the among the cream of the crop in the blogosphere.

Just a light hearted jab among friends.

Texans Are Great People
Other than trying to follow West Coast sports from here, being a Blue state person in a Red state, and having to live through the summer weather, I've found a lot of things to like about Texas.

Texans are friendly, neighborly, just plain good people.

My neighborhood is a true neighborhood. We all know each other. We all know each other's kids and watch out for them. Kids and families are important here. Kids learn manners and say things like "No, thank you" and "Yes, sir."

And, nothing beats a good plate of BBQ -- and no, you can't order it with macrobiotic sprouts.

I came here thinking I'd be a UT fan. But, the UT has an annoying habit of declaring itself a national champion in every sport -- before the season starts. And, when Mack Brown whined his way into a BCS bowl game -- in front of Cal -- I switched my allegiance to A & M. (I spend a week each year at a photography school at A&M and have never seen nicer, more courteous students. And, I love their school spirit.)

I'll root agaiinst sc and be pleased to see UT beat them.

Same thing with Alabama
I share your feelings about being a blue person in a red person state (my biggest apprehension about Alabama) but politics isn't my thing, so I don't bring it up in polite converstaion.  I can bite my tounge long enough (it is a little easier in Birmingham to be a blue person because of UAB).

Everyone in Mr. BB's program has been incredibly welcoming towards me, and we have been blessed to have so many of these people in our lives.  Also, Nico from Roll Bama Roll is truly a Southern gentleman (please keep this in mind when we meet Alabama in the future).  He grew up in Birmingham and even had his mom help me set up some potential job contacts.

I share your frustrations about sports, but it's with the SEC (or what they local press considers to be God's greatest creation).  However, the local media does make fun of itself and they aren't afraid to speak their mind (just ask David Shula).

Of course, BBQ is a must (though I hear it's a bit different in Texas than it is in Alabama).  I just have to keep it in moderation.

And I'm not even going to touch the Alabama-Auburn rivalry.  At first, I thought the deciding factor would be which university my sorority had a chapter at.  But when I found out that we have chapters at both universities, I chose to sit this one out.

It's going to be different, but we'll make the best of it.

BBQ
Florida thinks of itself as the South, and the South is supposed to be famous for BBQ, but y'all ought ta know - they ain't no decent BBQ in Tampa, an' thass a fack.

Probably start a riot on this, but the best BBQ in the world is Bryants in Kansas City.  In fact, it's Number 1, 2 and 3.  I don't know who the pretenders are.  (Although in the Valley, I think maybe Sylmar, Hoggly-woggly is pretty close.)

Congrats on the win yesterday. Howland marches on.

Nice job.

I can't root for USC
to win, no matter how much the PAC-10 is sucking right now. Let's hope Oregon can beat Winthrop, so we can at least have 2 teams in the Sweet 16.

by BruinFanatic1988 on Mar 18, 2007 10:03 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Are you kidding me?
Come on Roy, you made your mom get a second job so you could have a Coke?

When I was a kid, and we were poor, I shined shoes in front of restaurants to earn the money for soft drinks. (Dupars at Petit and Ventura or Bob's Big Boy at Balboa and Sherman Way).

Somehow, that commercial really bothers me. But, I'm sure when they ran focus groups BBall fans found it charming.

Florida
Did anyone else get slightly pissed when they showed clips from last year?  Noah is pissing me off.  Plus, Clark Kellogg is kissing a little too much Gator ass for my taste.

there would be nothing i'd like to see more than joakim having an adam morrison crybaby moment after we beat them and our man arron offering him support.

I love that commercial.

No, but I think his brother might like that idea
The faster he can get to the drinking, the happier he is.

Just to give you an idea about what a character Mr. BB's brother is, he moved to Chicago in October.  One of his favorite days of the year is St. Patrick's Day, and he was looking forward to spending it in Chicago, or sharing it with some family and/or friends in Milwaukee.  But some of his friends flew him out here because they said it just wasn't St. Patrick's Day without him.

He's gonna
be a great player. He'll be a true SF, and add more length to our lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw immediate playing time next year.

If everyone stays our depth next year is scary.

Taj Gibson, the 21 year old frosh.  Saw him mentioned on HBO's Real Sports about super prep schools.  Must've taken a few classes fromSenora Ross to qualify.

I sense a large Texas run coming in the second half.

Here in DC
we are getting the KU-Kentucky game. So please keep us informed on the Texas score.

Just going by the score board. Over here Kentucky is hanging in but was looking tired at the end of first half.

SC was shooting lights out in the 1st
If they cool off they have no chance to stop Vince Young, uh I mean Kevin Durant.

39-30 SC
Texas is stepping up their intensity on D but SC is still hitting tough shots.

by alcor805 on Mar 18, 2007 3:27 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Crap.....Nick Young is going off
I suspect SC may get up to a 20 point lead with the way he's dominated the last 2 minutes......

Texas
Texas is getting blown out. USC is legit.

by njbruin on Mar 18, 2007 3:31 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Whatever
We still own SuC. So to me it's JustSC.

by Nestor on Mar 18, 2007 3:33 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You can hate them and still recognize
they are legit.

They've played well today and are a threat in the tournament.

I think Texas' youth is starting to show. Not sure they are mature enough to come back. Hope so.

Their problem is, and has been all year -- they don't play D.

D wins championships.

Sorry.

Texas is so undisciplined and sloppy, it's unreal.

by bruinmike88 on Mar 18, 2007 3:35 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They also start 4 freshmen
and a sophomore. I actually didn't know that until they showed the starting lineups. So for me, the red flag was going off before the game even started.

Well here's the dilemma, rooting against SUC now means pulling for UNC. Can I really do that?

Can you believe they just said that Mayo
was the #1 recruit in the country -- and never mentioned any of the character issues?
sjh

by Class of 66 on Mar 18, 2007 3:44 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Or that he's NOT #1
You'll never convince me that the "top recruit" in the country was pursued by NONE of the big teams in college basketball.

Hey now!!
Bob Huggins pursed him. So he must be a legit student athlete.

by Nestor on Mar 18, 2007 3:47 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wonder if he'll stay eligible
For some reason I can't imagine him going to any class at all, especially if there's pot in the vicinity. They'll probably hook him up with all the Senora Ross taught courses.

by Tydides on Mar 18, 2007 3:53 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We are talking about classes at Southern Cal?!

by Tydides on Mar 18, 2007 3:59 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think a good bet in Vegas would be
that OJ Mayo scores zero points for justsc in his career.  I still don't think he will play for them.  I'm not saying he'll go someplace else, but there's a felony looming in the future for this guy.

by Fox 71 on Mar 18, 2007 4:20 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess it didn't contain as much money as SC was paying.

And your point is ....
Florida doesn't loom large in the "character first" department.  The issue with Florida is that their salary cap is a lot lower than justsc's.

by Fox 71 on Mar 18, 2007 4:18 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by ryebreadraz on Mar 18, 2007 4:14 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Fucking Texas
They roll over and I have to hear an announcer tell us about SC getting ready to share LA basketball with us.

And, they hype Mayo again.

Well, let their expectations rise -- when we crush them, again, it will hurt them even more.

by Class of 66 on Mar 18, 2007 4:20 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

kind of contradictory
when they compare the bball resumes of UCLA and $C and then go onto say they are closing the gap? wtf? the stats are right in front of them and they make that kind of statement?

by bruin06 on Mar 18, 2007 5:12 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Damn that pissed me off...
hearing them tout Mayo and his game. KLove will more than equalize Mayo next year...we'll own SuC again.
