Bruins #1 in Rivals Recruiting Rankings

Who says all we do is bash Karl Dorrell on this site? Hey, let's talk about something good Karl has done, and that's early recruiting for 2008.

Rivals.com came out with their early 2008 recruiting rankings today, and UCLA was ranked #1 on their list:

As you can see, UCLA has 21 commits so far (most of any school), including 13 that are rated 4 stars.

No doubt the sheer size of our class played a large part in our rank up to this point. The number of 4 star recruits is impressive, but the lack of any 5 star recruits will likely drop us out of the top spot once the final rankings come around (once other teams catch up in class size). I think it's also worth noting that average stars so far for 2008 (3.57) is actually lower (3.60) than in 2007, when we finished 35th. Still, it is likely that we will finish somewhere in the top 10, which will be KDs highest ranking so far.

For putting together an impressive early recruiting class so far, and their #1 ranking, I'll give kudos to KD (and his assistants, of course, who no doubt played a very large role in recruiting these players). Of course, none of this will mean anything if 1. we lose key recruits due to a lackluster performance in 2007, or 2. KD doesn't develop the talents he's recruited (assuming he's still around in 2008...yikes).

Go Bruins.
