Dorrell Champions New Pac-10 Bowls

According to Dohn, the Pac-10 has reached an agreement on "a pair of low-level bowl agreements beginning in 2008."  The draft release I recieved this morning provides the details:

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--The Pacific-10 Conference has reached agreements to provide teams to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.  Each agreement is for two years covering the 2008 and 2009 football seasons.

Following the 2008 season, the Pac-10's sixth-place team will participate in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl and the seventh-place team will play in the Poinsettia Bowl.  Those spots will be reversed following the 2009 season with the sixth-place team playing in San Diego and the seventh-place team going to Hawai'i.

The negotiating effort was spearheaded by UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell, who noted an unspecified "special interest" in the Pac-10's sixth and seventh place games.  "UCLA has reestablished its tradition by making it to a bowl game in each of the past four years -- and I was committed to doing whatever I could to continue that historic run," said Dorrell.  He added, "I also hear Hawai'i and San Diego have fine weather, not to mention great golf, that time of year."

"The Pac-10 is very pleased with these new agreements," said Worst-Commissioner-Ever Tom Hansen. "We are happy to continue our relationship with the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl and to begin one with the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, where the Conference already has such an outstanding relationship with the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.

Yes, it's a joke, or is it....  If you're a stickler, and want to read the real release, here'ya go.
