The Thinker Strikes Again

How in the world did we all missed this? I went over some of my notes this am and ran into this gem from the Thinker on our offense line’s play against BYU (emphasis mine):

"A couple misreads by the backs. (BYU) had a good game plan against us. They must have caught some tendencies on what we were doing, and gambled on making some of those plays."

Uh … so the Thinker is surprised by the fact that the Cougars caught on to what his offense doing? Are you kidding me?

Does Dorrell really have that much contempt for the intelligence of UCLA beat writers and alums, students, and fans who read them?

Dorrell is surprised that his opponent can predict his sh!tty offense?

Geez Karl. Yeah, I am sure those running plays in the second half were not telegraphed. I am sure no one, no one in the stadium, or watching game on television, saw runs coming when you put in your jumbo package in short yardage situations.

Seriously, can anyone here tell me what goes through this guy's mind when he utters this kind of BS? Not only does he come across as a total and complete moron, he comes across as a disingenuous idiot.

Disgraceful.

Olson defended by Petros

On LA radio yesterday SC alum Petros commented that BYU dropped 8 back in the coverage and tested Olson's decision making ability, which was found wanting. He said the solution is for Dorrell to "Dumb-down" and simplify the offense for Olson and for UCLA to run the ball. He defended Olson by saying that UCLA has had 4 OC's in 5 years and Olson's worked with 3 of them so what should anyone expect? Petros confirmed that he would be the analyst on FSN for the Washington game. I wish we'd get rid of the WCO.

In defense of Petros...

he is a very fair and balanced radio host and commentator. You must not listen to his radio show or else you would have not made this comment. In fact, he regularly expresses his contempt for Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart.

Furthermore, he speaks more fondly of his time at Cal then of his two years at sc.

But I've heard him do "color" on FSN Pac 10 games, and can spot a trOJan homer a mile away.

Such a statement is (a) right at the most stupid thing ever to be said by anyone ever, and (b) not surprising coming from Mr. Dorrell.

I wonder if the smart people here can find out if Mr. Dorrell actually said something as ridiculous as that. If he did, I would give him only one option - does he want a blindfold and a cigarette.

KD Comments

As I have said before, KD is an observer, one who has no real responsibility in his mind for what is actually happening. He stands back, sees BYU is doing something that is flummoxing the UCLA OC, and just discusses it, like it is some remote occurence in another universe. Like, "Gee last night the moon was partially eclipsed", as if it were a phenomenom from space. His learning curve is still straight up, IMO.

Vegas Odds are up

UCLA is a 13 1/2 or 14 point favorite (depending on the sports book) over Utah.

Keep in mind that Utah lost to Oregon State (at OSU) by 21 points.

Only 13 1/2 or 14 points. Seems like Vegas is, once again, not very confident in our guys. How many points do you think Oklahoma or LSU would be favored by over Utah? 13 or 14 points? Or 30 or 40?

I can't blame them

They've been screwed by KD's teams so many times in the last few years that he's made them look like chumps. How many times has UCLA been beaten by underdogs (odds-wise) in the last four years? They're playing it safe, knowing that anything is possible with The Thinker.

We barely covered against BYU and we did so only with one minute to go.

We SHOULD blow these guys out by 30 points. In reality...I highly doubt it will be a blow-out.

Even though he hasn't lost yet...

can we start dreaming about who'll coach next? The writing is on the wall, imo, 'cause I seriously doubt he'll pull off the expectations. To be honest. I don't want to eat crow at the end of the season, I want to see him gone.
