Yet Another Recruiting Advantage for UCLA
You know, some may think that it's already just too darn unfair.
After all, UCLA has practically everything that a young athlete (male or female) could want: beautiful weather; a picturesque campus; outstanding academics; great social life; great access to beach and slopes...
PLUS, the sheer abundance of beautiful people roaming the hills of Westwood.
Well, folks, we may have kicked up that abundance even more. Take a look at who's been taking Intro to Western Civ during the summer:
Shakira may get high grades in singing and swiveling her hips, but what about ancient Western history? For the past month, the Colombian pop star has attended a class at the University of California, Los Angeles, called "Introduction to Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843."Dare I say this to U$C?
Yes, I dare: SCOREBOARD.

You know there may be only one thing on this earth better than being a UCLA alum.
And that's being a UCLA student.

All the same, I have to say...
I married an absolutely lovely, smart, Latina, former UCLA co-ed who stuck with me all through law school and out-screams me at football games.
Yep. Life is good.

Forgot about the Alba...
Either way, though, we have had recent press pieces this year covering Shakira taking a UCLA class -- a HUMANITIES GE, no less! -- and Alba toting a blue and gold b-ball during the Tournament.
And $C? I think the last "starlet" mentioned in the context of UCLA was when Whine-art was rumored to be dating Paris Hilton.
Niiice.

It's the marriage made in heaven
I can't imagine people who deserve each other as much as those two.

One more for the academic scoreboard...
Many of you may have alreadys een this, but Newsweek/ msnbc did a nice article last month on our own math-whiz alum Danica McKellar (formerly "Winnie" of "The Wonder Years" and all grown up now) and her new book "Math Doesn't Suck":
Imagine that: a UCLA alum wanting to encourage young people -- especially young girls -- that being SMART is cool.
Gotta love it.

From Wikipedia
I remembered hearing something about her having a theorem named after her, which is pretty damn awesome.

Danica was a pretty cool
IIRC she was in ADPi. Ran into her in couple of parties around Westwood. Very cool, down to earth person. I am glad she is doing well. She deserves it.
Now Fred Savage on the other hand from what I have heard from good sources was a total scumbag (during mid 90s) when he was attending Stanford.

I worked Sproul during her Frosh Orientation...
Kicking myself for not posting this as a separate Diary a couple weeks ago. Definitely proud to have this young lady as a UCLA alum.

I still remember the old jokes even after (ack) 16 years.

Why do you have to rub it in?
North Campus had the Sculpture Garden...South Campus had...the Ear Wax Statue...sigh...
