Dorrell Out-Coached....Again

Matt Hayes at sportingnews.com provides yet another example of Dorrell's glaring incompetency:

A microcosm of how utterly poor UCLA was in its upset loss at Utah: The Bruins spent significant practice time last week preparing for a fake field goal attempt by the Utes. Utah pulled it off anyway, and the momentum-changing play led to a touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half. ..

I'm sure the Dorrellistas will be quick to point out how special teams is the responsibility of the ST coach. Therein lies Dorrell's protection--nothing seems to be his responsibility.

When will Dorrell be held accountable?

Well, Dorrell's little secret is starting to be revealed in the MSM. John Wilner has penned an excellent piece exposing the fraud that is Karl Dorrell:

If Dorrell can't win with this team -- if he can't get a veteran team to play hard each week -- you have to wonder just how much he can win with any team.

And if he can lose to Utah with this team, you have to figure he can lose to just about anybody.

But if you're a Bruins fan, the most concerning development might be this:

Your program has already been overtaken by Cal, and now, with Dorrell at the helm, it appears that Washington and Arizona State are preparing to pass you by, as well.

Wilner goes on to rank UCLA 8th best in the PAC 10. All this in Dorrell's "make-a-move" season.

Meanwhile, Gregg Patton at the Press Enterprise also jumps into the fray with another article that hints at a familiar question: If not now, when?

"We don't deserve Top 25 after that loss," he said. "You have to earn your way."

The funny thing is, the Bruins probably are that talented, and probably did have a shot at a BCS game. By Game 3, though, they couldn't even muster up the necessary intensity to see it through.

Disappointment is an oft-recurring theme in Westwood, and Dorrell has learned how to handle that.

"Remember, the game is supposed to be fun," he said, flashing a smile. "Believe me, when we have a game like that, it's difficult.

"But I'm not going to be sorrowful. I'm just going to look forward to the next game, and get ready to play Washington."

Five years down the road -- three games into the season that was going to change the status quo -- we have no reason to think it's ever going to be any different.

(emphasis added)

Now, ESPN is projecting UCLA to appear in the prestigious Las Vegas TV Bowl. Again, all this in Dorrell's "make-a-move" season.

Dorrell is clearly incompetent and should be relieved of his duties immediately. As long as he holds the position of head football coach at UCLA he is stealing money from the state of California and the University. If he had any shred of self-decency and pride in his alma mater, he'd acknowledge his ineptitude and resign and take his entire staff with him.

GO BRUINS!

Potential of the players
Great points!  But you forgot to mention that Dorrell is not only stealing from the State and University, he is also stealing from the players who are trying their best to overcome an incompetent coach! and the loyal alumni who give his program needed funds every year.

The "X" Factor...
is Dan Guerrero.  Either he knows right now that Dorrell is a disaster or he is also waiting to see if the clown can eke out another underperforming mediocre season.

The majority of us on BN know he must go.  We might disagree as to whether he should go now, or at the end of the year, but we believe he must go.

The amount of traffic on BN during the Utah fiasco shows that more and more fans and alums are also coming to this conclusion.

The MSM is now being whipped into shape.  After I embarrassed myself by posting a diary after I got excited over the pre-Utah game hype of Corso and Herbstreit, there can be very, very few members of the MSM who are willing to give Dorrell any more chances.

I can only hope that the big-time donors to the program (I am a donor but definitely not "big time") have also come around and are making themselves heard to Guerrero.  Money talks.

Dorrell should do the honorable thing now and resign.  To stay on will cause further damage to a once-proud program.  Unfortunately, I don't think "Mr. Nice Guy" Dorrell cares.

Won't resign
Dorrell will not step down, he is dedicated to bringing the UCLA football program down to the lowest level he possibly can.  After we saw what occurred last Saturday, one would think the program could get no lower, but with this guy leading the way he can surely sink the program even further into the Abyss before it will need a complete rebuild.  Unfortunately DG has little football knowledge, so he is probably just swallowing whatever this clown is feeding him, again only $$$$ are going to convince him that a change MUST BE made and soon.  And these $$$$ are just not just UCLA athletic $$$$, it needs to be University-wide to get this guy out for good!

I could live with the Vegas Bowl every 3 years...
... so long as there was also a Rose Bowl every 3 years and a Holiday Bowl every 3 years, too.

Just imagine: going on runs where your regular seasons would look something like...

8-4 (on to Vegas)
10-2 (on to Holiday)
11-1 (on to Rose)

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I would love for the Vegas Bowl to be a good end to a reloading year, with the reasonable hope and promise of a Rose Bowl on the horizon.

Shoot, KD can't even point to the Vegas Bowl as an accomplishment, because he hasn't even WON there.

About the only good thing that came out of our last trip to the Vegas Bowl was my wife and I getting an enormous room at Harrah's facing right down the Strip for 30 bucks.

Absolutely
Every program will have down years.

Even with hoops, I will be mad if we do not win the NC, but I will be able to get over it because I know that Howland will have the team competing the very next year.

I just want to know that the FB program is in good hands. Right now, it clearly is not.

M, I think it's time for a change
I think it's time to pull down "Why not us?  Why not now?"  It's sort of embarrassing.  It's sort of like justsc's blonde cheerleader.

I figure I can leave it for a while...
... just to emphasize it.  "Why not us?"  Three guesses, and you'd only need one.

Anyway, I'll consider it.

ESPN 's Projection
has the Bruins in the Las Vegas Bowl against either Air Force or TCU....Uh oh, we're in trouble. Didn't Air Force beat Utah two weeks ago? And didn't TCU beat BYU last week???

Disgusting
Another Toilet Bowl, if we're lucky.

There should be a Toilet Bowl Classic for teams coached by clowns.

A clown is what
KD aspires to be.  He's not there yet, but give him a few more years.

No
BYU lost to Tulsa (in the WAC).

Has this question been asked??
What if the team runs the table, what then. I think we will be up the proverbial creek without the paddle and be stuck with KD.

Barnes2JJ,

I think you said you were going to NY (Manhattan) for vacation/business??

There is an Italian restaurant in East Rutherford, NJ (just over the river) called Jerry's. It is on Patterson Plank Road. There are people that drive in from the city to eat there all the time. It's not very big but the food is excellent and you get a lot of it. The antipasta salad (Jesse's Salad) is wonderful, with a dressing that is a family secret.

When I had relocated to NJ I lived about a 5 minute walk from Jerry's and it was personally responsible for the extra 15 lbs I came back to CA with. It's only about a 20 minute ride to the restaurant from Manhattan.

If you get a chance, try it you won't regret it.

I think that question has been posed a lot
The likelihood of finishing with only one loss is so astronomical as to not be worth worrying about.

But what if he ends with 7, 8 or 9 wins?  That invites comparison with last season, and he was not fired at the end of last season.  Those in his personality cult will cite that as a precedent that means he cannot be fired, that anyone who fires him is a racist and a hater and (my favorite) an imperialist lackey running dog stooge.

That's why I am pleading with the world in general and Mr. Guerrero in particular to fire him now while the sentiment is so overwhelmingly in favor of such a move.

NY
Arty, thank you very much for the tip.  It sounds great, especially if people are actually leaving the city to go there.

We're going in late December and we always try to make our dining choices while on vacation count.

Thank you again!
