Frank Gansz Jr. Named Special Teams Coach

He was with the Ravens the last two years.

UCLA Press Release

He was the ST coach with the Ravens the last two seasons, the Chiefs from 2001 - 2005 and the Raiders in 1998 and 1999.

Also, Dohn reports that Kevin Craft (Mt. Sac JC) will be able to go to spring practice and thus compete for the QB job next season.

Bloodlines
The all-important "bloodlines" criterion has been met here.  Frank Gansz Sr. was special teams coach for the Chiefs, I think.  I may be wrong on the team, but I do recall that he was a very good special teams coach.

Whoa -- Gansz coached the special teams...
... that blocked for Dante Hall?  Niiiice.

Is it just me, or is CRN pulling more high-quality NFL-level talent than KD did his during his first mass assistant hire?

This
is why you hire experience. Even if CRN hadn't been a HC, his assistant experience alone would have made him qualified for the job. He's been around so long that he knows hundreds of coaches and can put together the best staff possible.

Not sure if Hall was around at the time
Here's a quote from the Chiefs' website dated January 30, 2001.  It's about Gansz Junior, and this blurb was at the end of the Junior story.

"Gansz's father, Frank Sr. is entering his 24th season in the NFL coaching ranks and currently serves as the special teams coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The elder Gansz has twice been named the NFL's Special Teams Coach of the Year ('89, '99) and spent five seasons (`81-82, `86-88) on the Chiefs coaching staff, including two-year stint (`87-88) as Kansas City's head coach."

I lived in KC in '89, so that must be where I remember him from.  I don't remember who the special teams guys were, but I remember that they were great.

Yes, Hall was there
The press release mentions Gansz Jr. coaching Dante Hall and also Desmond Howard in Oakland.

Experienced Assistants
Well, when you have a HC who is experienced as a HC, has stayed in the business, and is building a team without all the sensitivity that KD demonstrated (let's see that all started with TD as I recall), you will find experienced and successful coaches who are willing to come on in and get with the program. Leadership and good management make that happen. At least 8 wins and excellent coaching next year and beyond, with enthusiastic players who are motivated!!!

His Dad Worked At UCLA Too!
If I am not mistaken, Frank Gansz, Sr. was an assistant coach at UCLA before he went to the NFL.  He worked for either Vermeil, Donahue or both.  Homer Smith left UCLA to join him in Kansas City when he became the head coach there.
