Cal vs UCLA Pac-10 Tournament Quarterfinal Highlights

The Bruins started the game well with great defensive intensity leading to easy buckets and efficient offense, jumping to a 12-point lead at 16-4 before the Bears could even score a basket from the field. However, Kevin Love would get his second foul with around 11 minutes left in the half. With Love on the bench the lead dropped as low as two points. Early highlights.

In place of Love, Lorenzo Mata-Real stepped up on each side of the ball, scoring on easy buckets inside and blocking shots. At the same time, Josh Shipp and Darren Collison contributed during this run as the Bruins steadily increased the lead to 14-points at the half, 39-23.

Love literally jump-started the second half draining three straight 3-pointers, extending the lead to 19 points. From there, the Bruins showed they could score inside and out, as the lead ballooned to as many as 32 points. At around five minutes left,  Coach Howland emptied the bench as the Bruins coasted to a 88-66 win.

Stupidest statement of the night, "Nobody is playing better in [the Pac-10]...than Cal."

I know we played
well today...i follwed the game tracker and it seemed like things were going our way from the get go.

But Tele after seeing the vid footage, i now see that this win wasn't just us taking advantage of tired team, or even Kal showing its true colors...this was wonderful basketball...the kind that we need to play from here on out.

I mean it was kind of scary to sit down and see that everyone was taking and making what they wanted..our shooting from behind the arc was just absurd.

But most importantly the D...12 steals, 4 blocks, forcing 18 TOs....that Ben Ball Baby!

no time to gloat as you say Nest, we have to deal with troy in about 17 hours

carrying the torch
tim floyd is carrying john chaney's torch in terms of always wearing a messed up white collared shirt, a loose tie, and generally looking disheveled.

Thanks for the thorough post, Telegrok!
"nobody is playing playing better than Cal, our ninth place team"... who has incidentally lost eight out of their last ten. Is this the new "standard" for Timmeh?

What a genius! He must be trying to set the bar low for next year!

I LOVED
KL's interview after the game:  Huge grin, "Why are you interviewing me?  Did you see the game?"

That kid is priceless.  What a great team member, on a great team.

Circled stat
should've been the one below! Look at'em bench minutes. I thought RW could have gotten more rest, but then again, that kid never seems to get tired.

Key stat
Beside the minutes played stat (good to get rest at the beginning of a three-day back-to-back tournament), I think the most important stat was assists:  when K-Love has (nearly) as many assists as Westbrook and Collison, and they're not all of the rocket outlet type... well, that means we're just about unstoppable.
