Jrue Holiday Named Gatorade Nat'l Player of the Year

he didn't win it. He can't have won it. He's going to UCLA and Howland can't recruit top players to UCLA because of his style, remember? All the top recruits are going to Arizona where they will play a style that's far more fun and the Wildcats will continue their run of 3 straight Pac 10 titles because they are the standard.

this will officially be ridiculous if Love stays, although a huge long-shot. Congratulations to Jrue. Can't wait to see him play next year. It's going to be fun. We're incredibly spoiled. Thank God for Howland!!

If everyone were to come back next year

we would have the two best backcourts in the country. Reminds me of the stories about the Big Fella and his frosh cohorts taking out the defending national champion varsity squad. Too much talent in one place at one time. In the future, Howland may have to hire an additional assistant coach whose sole job is to make sure everyone gets enough minutes.

I was at that game.

Final score was 75-60. The varsity didn't have everyone back from the championship team, but they were pretty good. Fininished second in the Pac-8 that year (18-8) due to injuries to key guys.

Pauley was full for the freshman games. The student section was absolutely totally full within 5 minutes after the doors were opened.

Talk about bang for the buck

Arrive EARLY. I think student tickets were fifty cents. Sometimes there was a high school game prelim. Watch the frosh warm up, oohing and ahhing over every Lucius Allen drive and every Lynn Shackleford jump shot and every breath-taking ascent into the clouds by Lewis. Then, watch the freshmen destroy another school's freshman team. Then, watch the varsity, with Mike Warren and Edgar Lacey, warm up. Then, watch the varsity play. Cheering madly all the while. Then, go have a victory meal at the Apple Pan. Then, go home and watch the replay on KTLA.

I was at that game, too. It wasn't hard to recognize greatness in the making, was it?

I'm not sure what the question was either

I recall that the reg card had little perforated tickets about a quarter of an inch by an inch that you could tear off to get into football games at the Crapaseum. Or if you didn't have the ticket and reg card, but looked like a student, you often could get in, or so I'm told.
