Howland's got that ladder and net thing down pat

What a great victory. I missed seeing most of the game as I was at a showing of "Wicked" at the Pantages with my wife and kids. (Yeah, I had to take one for the home team.) Boy did that play seem long. Didn't help that I was constantly calculating how much of the game I'd be able to see. By the time we got out and I got the radio on in the car we had a 20-point lead with under 15 to play in the second half. So I got to hear the last unsuccessful push by Xavier while sitting on the 101 in traffic, and then see about the last three minutes of the great win when I got home. Game highlights will come tomorrow; tonight - post-game interviews.

I have to say Tele,
You're Pavlov and I'm a dog.  Everytime there's a ring (UCLA game), I salivate in anticipation of your videos.

I don't remember
what the pre-Telemachus era was like, and I don't want to go back. Thanks again for all the hard work.

by Tydides on Mar 29, 2008 11:17 PM PDT reply actions

Yea T
again many thanks, everything worked beautifully for me.  Keep it up.

Haha just a random comment, Dukie V almost went a full segment only complimenting us, but he just had to bring up our inconsistencies and Josh Shipp.

I gotta say though, Kevin Loves performance today was really one of the most impressive I've seen by a college athlete in a long time.  I mean Hansbrough is a good player, but KL did it all today..I think Hes been by leaps and bounds the best player in this tournament to date.

Lets hope he can keep it up, and that everyone can bring the same level of play they showed tonight.  This game was exactly what the doctor ordered, literally, I'm not even 20 and this tournament has certainly taken years off my life.

I still cant believe how spoiled we are to be here yet again, what a day, what a tournament, what a year..let keep on chooglin'

Awesome Tele
I can't say thank you enough. I'm always waiting for the next clips. Keep up the great work, really appreciate it.

So we made it
back to the final four and so far from espn...we've got the most "acne" of any of the remaining teams, and could use a bottle of clearasil, and were the buffalo bills of college basketball.

Can't wait for the paper tomorrow, we may need to bring in a second bulletin board..

how about Bill Plascke
calling our team a bust if they dont win the championship this year? And we're the unreasonable fans?

I didnt even bothered to link to the piece of
garbage but you guys can check it in the LA Times if you want to.

It just hit me
that we made the asdfkjasdfja;fjadk!!! FINAL FOUR!!! THREE YEARS IN A ROW! That is amazing ... as everybody knows, it's difficult to be great ... it's unbelievably difficult to be CONSISTENTLY great.

by dokein on Mar 30, 2008 2:43 AM PDT up reply actions

It puts what Coach did in perspective
We not only went to the FinalFour, we won the championship over and over (2) and over (3) and over (4) and over (5) and over (6) and over (7)and over (8) and over (9) and over (10) and then waited and won it again (11).  But those years with Coach were magic.

If Coach came out of his office on February 2 and saw his shadow, it meant we would win for another six weeks.  It was as much a part of life on campus as having a tough time finding a parking place.

by Fox 71 on Mar 30, 2008 5:04 AM PDT up reply actions

especially amazing...
If you compare the 2006 starting lineup to this year's, it was Bozeman, LRMAM, Afflalo, Farmar, and Hollins with Collison coming off the bench. That's almost a TOTALLY different team! Unbelievable job by CBH.

Kevin Love in the final seconds.....
I didn't catch this as I was helping Mom set the table....Apparently an XU player drove in for a layup in the last seconds, came right at Love, and Love stepped aside to let the kid score.

Well, it turns out that it was the kid's first basket in the tourney, and he had some nice words to say about Love here....

Thanks T
Yes T, I have to echo what an amazing job you have done this season. Thank you.

Also, I'm not sure if you guys saw Xavier head coach Sean Miller's comments after the game. Talk about a class act. He was very gracious in defeat and he deserves a TON of credit with what he has done with that program. If the rumors are true and he is a head candidate for the Indiana job, he will no doubt turn them into the powerhouse they once were.

My wife......
Left on Thursday night to go to her mother's in Raleigh, NC.

She is a Tarhole graduate and won't be returning until next Tuesday. We don't get along very well this time of year.... Looks like there might be some additional turmoil in 2008!

Sometimes it's out of your hands
My nephew got married yesterday to a UCLA grad (lovely girl).

But, I think that may have helped with the Mojo...I was watching the game while I was wrapping the wedding present in paper covered with hearts (an homage to KLove!)

Plaschke strikes again!
I am sorry to bring up Jack ass Plaschke while we are still celebrating a glorious final four berth. But I can't believe that for second day in a row this guy's column is spreading anti-UCLA propoganda by calling this year's team a bust!   I am sick and tired of reading this Trojan lover's column bashing UCLA's accomplishments. I hate the Trojan Times.
I know you guys tell me not to read the fishwrap, but this is supposed to be the hometown paper for god's sake. Here is the link:

Let him keep playing that tune
I don't see how we're hurt when an idiot keeps saying the world is flat.  Certainly there will be that portion of justsc people who can read who will say that he's preaching the Gospel, but in all likelihood the majority of the people who still read his drivel will realize that in fact the Emperor is not wearing clothes.

As long as he can keep getting paid to write drivel, he will.  As long as the fishwrap is but an extention of the daily trOJan, that will  happen.  But eventually people will realize that he's neither a good reporter nor a good writer.

I don't care what he says, frankly.

Here's a BETTER Link
Forget the LA Times which is now a Chicago owned rag.

Here's a better link that honors what UCLA has accomplished under Howland.

Someday, we will get a better local paper, but until then, we have our Bruins!

by BillM85Legacy on Mar 30, 2008 9:15 AM PDT reply actions

Xavier head coach
had this to say about our Bruins:
"They are physical," Miller said. "They blitz and trap every pick-and-roll you set. They trap the low post. They pressure the ball. They have sometimes four players on the court who are 6-7 or taller and they don't foul. I'm telling you, if you play as hard as they do and have the size that they do and the strategy and that offensive team can't put fouls on them, it is really, really hard to score."

It's refreshing to see an opposing coach give our warriors there due, unlike our last 2 Elite 8 opponents (Calipari and Williams), who both whined that their teams simply didn't shoot well.

I'll say it again: "God bless you, Ben Howland!"

Go Bruins.

"I just think, at the end of the day, UCLA is not a great job." Brian D'Oh!n, 12/07

Miller
was fantastic in the post-game. So much credit for UCLA. And hoped UCLA would win it all so Xavier could say they lost to the national champion.

Again, Miller is a class act.
Gracious and good sports in the postgame, just like the guys from MVSU.

K Love

So the Bruins made it back to the Final Four. That's great and everything, but the footage of K Love throwing the ball the length of the court & making a couple of baskets was the SICKEST thing I have ever seen. Truly amazing!!!!

Packer
Is there to call the game, or coach the game.  If you really knew what you were talking about, you'd be coach.

The man ruins what otherwise would be a good game to watch.
