Congratulations to our Bruins -- Center Ryan Taylor of UCLA, linebacker Sean Westgate of UCLA have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football. [Update]: More honors - Akeem Ayers named Lott IMPACT Player of the Week. Also the team was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week.

D J Monroe is a sophomore RB for the Longhorns who so far has only one carry this season (he rushed for 14 yards). The kid is a speedster and a fan favorite among the Longhorn faithful. At 5-9, 171 he sounds about the size of our Damien Thigpen. They have been clamoring for him (similar manner we have been clamoring for Josh Smith, Randal Carroll yadi, yada, yada). Per the link from Barking Carnival (which is another excellent Texas fanblog that you all need to be reading this week) Monroe has been getting a lot of reps this week in practice. Just something to keep an eye out for on Saturday. GO BRUINS.

I’ll put a post up later on this week about the 2 man passing game, a Texas staple, and I’ll explain why Garrett Gilbert has struggled with his new role as the captain of this demanding offense.

UCLA has played six games since the 1990 season in the state of Texas and has won five of them. The last time the Bruins ventured into Texas it handed Northwestern a 50-38 setback in the 2005 Sun Bowl. The last regular season contest the Bruin played in the state was its 42-24 win over Houston in the 1998 season. The lone loss came at the hands of Wisconsin in the 2000 Sun Bowl, 21-20.
