UCLA Football Set to Improve Dramatically in 2011

Phil Steele's (in)famous simulators have UCLA as the 8th most improved offense and the 8th most improved defense in the country (points scored and allowed respectively). Overall, that puts UCLA as the third most improved team in the nation.

2011 Pre-Season UCLA Football Practice Schedule Posted

Practice begins on Monday, August 8 - 3:00-5:00 p.m. And ends on Saturday, August 20 - 5:00 p.m. with Scrimmage at Drake Stadium.

Individual Football Tickets On Sale

According to the Athletics website, individual tickets and mini-plan tickets are on sale now. This is good for people like me who can't attend all home games this season. Some of the seats through Ticketmaster look so-so, but I'm sure other ticket outlets will have more attractive options.

Neuheisel on the hottest of hot seats?

I'm not sure that I agree with this, I think some below him on this list are in more danger. However, it is nice to see that there are others who have higher expectations for UCLA.

Prince out for spring; Hundley ready to go

Kevin Prince is still rehabilitating, and despite CRN's previous hopes will not be doing much of anything during spring ball. Recent surgeries have Darius Bell out and Nick Crissman limited. Brehaut's available, but just coming off baseball participation. Brett Hundley is there. While none of us wish any ill will on any Bruin, if there were ever a situation tailor-made for a freshman to come in and prove himself ready to contribute (or even start), this is it.

Frank Gansz out as Special Teams Coach

Angus McClure, who was most recently the director of on-campus recruiting, is the new ST coach. It's been awhile since we've had some game-breakers (MJD) in the return game. Hopefully this will get us going in the right direction.

Brandon Willis to Transfer Back to North Carolina

Inside Carolina is reporting that UCLA DT Brandon WIllis has been released from UCLA and will be trnasferring back to UNC to be closer to his ailing grandmother. Willis transferred from UNC to UCLA after signing with UNC in 2010 and sat out last season. This will hurt UCLA's depth at DT.

Tuiasosopo joins UCLA as assistant strength coach

"Marques Tuiasosopo, a former UW QB and one of the more legendary players in school history, is leaving the position he has held at Washington for the past two years for a similar job at UCLA, it was confirmed tonight." ... "At UCLA, he [Tuiasosopo] will join his coach at UW, Rick Neuheisel, who is entering his fourth year with the Bruins. It's a little unclear exactly what Tuiasosopo's role will be at UCLA other than that it apparently would not be a full-time assistant's job as the Bruins do not have any openings. A UCLA spokesman said he could not confirm the move or say exactly what position Tuiasosopo would fill." This is interesting. Last year's youtube videos from spring and summer training/conditioning definitely hyped all of us up. All we heard from Linn was the players are bigger, faster, stronger; however, the season proved it was just fluff. Let's see if Tui and the improved weight room help.

Sheller gets 6th year!

Sean Sheller has been granted an additional season of competition by the NCAA and will be a senior in 2011. Update (BN): Congrats to Sean. This is great news for him and the team as it will add depth and experience. Sheller might move to LG instead of staying at LT, as Jeff Baca could be taking that spot back next year.
