Kareem Abdul-Jabbar bemoans the loss of John Wooden's ideals at his alma mater


No one can ever replace the legend, but his ideals can help the troubled program. (BN Eds): Kareem's comments are eye-opening. They should serve yet another wake up call as he indirectly exposes how Dan Guerrero's lack of leadership has done severe damage to the brand of the program built by Coach.

RIP: Buck Compton: 1921-2012

Lynn "Buck" Compton, who played on UCLA's first Rose Bowl team and later served as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division on D-Day, died Saturday night at his home in Burlington, WA. He was 90. Compton was a football and baseball letterwinner at UCLA in the early 1940s, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. As an athlete, Compton was a starting catcher for the Bruins, playing alongside Jackie Robinson in 1940. In football, he played offensive guard in 1941 and '42.

Al Scates Goes for 20th NCAA Volleyball Title


Al Scates is coaching his 50th year at UCLA, looking for his 20th NCAA title. He has coached more than two dozen Olympians. Good luck coach & bring home #109, and make it championships for both men and women in volleyball.

RIP Walt Hazzard - Passed Away Today After Long Illness

His mother, "Rita, was the manager at Dkystra and Sproul Residence Halls on the UCLA campus". Cross said: "Being a Bruin to me is all about your chance to be a part of something very special that few ever get to experience.
