Article from tWWL about Lavin coming back to Westwood... hopefully, he'll get the proper welcome from the alums, even if the students don't remember him...

ESPN catches Lavin recycling his cliches

Dear St. John's: Enjoy Steve Lavin. Love, UCLA.

Steve Lavin is not a good basketball coach. No seriously, he sucks. And since St. John's recently hired "Coach" Lavin to lead their men's basketball team after every other viable candidate (hey, is Lane Kiffin available?) turned them down, I feel the need to set the record straight. There are currently two interpretations of Steve Lavin's career: Lavin's interpretation and the truth. Lavin's interpretation was adopted by just about every media outlet in the country after Lavin was fired in 2003, and it appears that St. John's has bought into the hype as well. Meanwhile, those of us who actually suffered through the Lavin era at UCLA are left clinging to the truth. Rest posted on the Huffington Post linked above.

Uhm, Arizona & Cal "Approached" Lavin For Their Headcoach Positions?

Well that is what was posted (presumably floated either by Lav himself or his agent) in the New York Post today (emphasis added): Lavin, 44, has been approached by Arizona, California, DePaul, Memphis and South Florida and turned down N.C. State since being fired by UCLA after the 2002-03 season, his only losing campaign. He went to ESPN, where he became college coaching's most eligible bachelor. St. John's pulled off the successful courtship. Uh. Okay. The whole article is a hilarious read with grafs like this: Lavin -- looking resplendent in his sailor-navy suit, Mr. Clean-white dress shirt, "True Blood"-red tie, Pearl Drops-white smile and just a hint of salt in his gelled dark hair -- is the epitome of today's new era coach. Oh this is going to be fun. GO BRUINS.
