The NY Times runs a front-page piece in their Sports Section today with more great praise for the Bruin star, who is, by the way, wearing his Bruin blue cap in the photo. Not bad placement on a football Monday.

Golf sensation Patrick Cantlay picked up another impressive accolade this summer, winning the Southern California Golf Association's Amateur Championship. GO BRUINS

The Philadelphia Inquirer profiles our Patrick, who says again he'll stay all four years. Given how much money he's giving up by staying, maybe he can be a role model for some of our Benballers.

Nice article in the front page of the Sports section of the OC Register (Patrick Cantlay hails from Servite HS in Orange County). From the article: "It's something so difficult to achieve that Tiger Woods couldn't pull it off. Neither could Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer. And in golf, it's hard to get much better than that. A first-time participant has won just five of the 110 U.S. Opens, and the last time it happened was 1913." The article also mentions that Patrick is intent on staying all 4 years at UCLA to get his degree, which is great to hear as well!

From the UCLA website: Cantlay becomes the first UCLA golfer to win the award since Kevin Chappell won it in 2008, and he joins Chappell, Corey Pavin (1982) and Duffy Waldorf (1985) as the only UCLA golfers to win National Player of the Year honors. He also became the first golfer to win both National Player of the Year and National Freshman of the Year in the same season.
