"He's always been a great point guard," Westbrook said. "He taught me a lot when I was at UCLA and he's done a great job with that team over there so I think he's having a great season."

A good man-to-man defense is like a zone, where you've got pressure on the ball, you're guarding the man with the ball--one pass away, you're in man-to-man, but the other guys are in a zone. The thing I don't like about the zones is you're going to give up an open shot. I don't like to have shots that are uncontested from a defensive standpoint. In zone, you're going to end up giving up open shots. Moving the 3-point line back, you're going to see more zone because of it. The purpose supposedly was to open the game up. I'm skeptical of whether that will occur. I don't think a zone is as fun to watch from a spectator standpoint.

The Bruins, despite providing the NBA with a pair of lottery picks and a second-round selection, continue to look like the class of the conference. And who's going to doubt taskmaster Ben Howland? He supplemented his roster with a pair of McDonalds All-American guards, Jrue Holiday and Malcolm Lee. Darren Collison and Josh Shipp both are back for their senior seasons, likely hoping to improve on inconsistent junior campaigns. The frontcourt, particularly in the area of rebounding, is a little iffy, although James Keefe looked solid during the NCAA tournament.

Ben Howland is pretty damn good, the results of the last three Final Fours not withstanding. For my money he's the best ... though he's probably gonna have to open it up on offense a little more to ever get that national title that has eluded him. But rest assured, he'll get a national title. He might be the best combination of recruiter/coach in all of basketball. UCLA - STATUS QUO Ben Howland has already completed one of the all-time great turnarounds.. turning an 11-win program into a three-time Final Four participant in less than a blink of the eye. Now, there's really nowhere to go but down. But considering the monster class heading to Westwood and the return of Darren Collison, another Final Four trip is certainly within reason. When Final Fours become the "status quo", you know you're doing a great job. Bruins maintain their status in Pac-10 Hoops

Howland worth every penny to UCLA When you look at Ben Howland's accomplishments at UCLA, you understand why the school signed him to a lucrative contract extension. UCLA and Howland agreed on a new seven-year contract, which runs through the 2014-15 season and includes guaranteed compensation of $1.97 million for the 2008-09 season and escalates to $2.3 million for the 2014-15 season. Last season, UCLA set a school record for victories en route to a mark of 35-4 and a third consecutive Final Four appearance. Since the NCAA tournament bracket expanded to 64 teams in 1985, UCLA is one of just four schools to earn three straight Final Four berths (Michigan State in 1999-01 was the last to do so prior to the Bruins). UCLA has also won three straight Pac-10 titles, making Howland the first Bruin coach since John Wooden to win three straight league championships. Howland is also one of just three coaches in the history of college basketball to win at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons. It was a wise move for UCLA to sign him up. What they are saying in Milwaukee about Mbah a Moute: *Scott Skiles, Milwaukee Bucks head coach, as quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "He's from a winning program, he's got great length, he can guard two or three different positions. He's kind of an improving offensive player, and I think he'll still improve, and another high-quality person. Especially at that pick; that's an important thing to have right there." *John Hammond, Bucks' general manager told the Journal Sentinel: "Energy, toughness, defender, role player. Kind of a guy that will do whatever it takes to win. Rock-solid person. Feel good about having him here. You never know, but sometimes guys like that find a way to get on the court and play. Not saying that he's going to play, but you never know."
