Bruin (Hoops) Bites: Draft Eve Edition

Zach in NBA Draft Green Room, Incoming Transfer Possibility, O'Bannon Trial Update, KLove Update & More

Finally, the 2014 NBA Draft kicks take place tomorrow.  You can catch it live from  Brooklyn, at 6:30 Thursday on ESPN.  Why finally?  Well, we've had quite a bit of drama around these parts, with Zach and Kyle declaring the day after the Florida loss in the Sweet 16, the Salford-Balford-LaVine dirty laundry aired, and then the eleventh hour change of heart from Jordan Adams.  You can read all about those things here and here.

Zach went on to impress at the Combine.  That and his potential expressed through his freakish athleticism got him an invitation to Brooklyn.  He'll be one of only twenty waiting in the Green Room for his name to be called.

Seth Davis interviewed six GM's (he claims), and he gives the thumbs down to Adams, says Anderson is an elite passer and highest IQ in the draft but can't defend anyone, and loves LaVine's potential.

Here is the latest mock draft, one of many that are all over the place, from NBA.com. This one has Zach at #20, Kyle at #25, and Jordan at #29.

We'll have more coverage tomorrow night, starting with an open thread before 6:30PM PST. In other news:

  • Graduate transfer from Colorado State, Jon Octeus, narrowed his list down to three choices: Cinncinati, Missouri and UCLA. Octeus is from Florida, so apparently distance isn't an issue, and UCLA gets the last visit:  either late this week or early next week.   This one is a bit of a head-scratcher.  We have the 2014-15 -only scholarship to give, and apparently Octeus is a good perimeter defender, but why would he A) transfer and B) come to UCLA to sit behind Balford, Powell and Hamilton?  Perhaps it's to finish his college career at a high-profile program and get one of those invaluable UCLA sheepskins.  Makes no sense to leave a starting role otherwise.
  • In the O'Bannon trial, Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany amd NCAA President Mark Emmert took the stand and gave their expected "sky is falling" testimony.  Delany said: "there wouldn't be a Rose Bowl."   Of course Emmert is famous for making Nick Saban the highest paid college football coach while at LSU.
  • It's been reported that the Warriors are willing to part with Klay Thompson in order to get Kevin Love. The latest iteration had the Lakers trading its #7 pick for Thompson as part of a three team deal with the Timberwolves.  The rumors have died down in the last couple of days.
  • In a breath of fresh air, apparently 2015 commit Aaron Holiday doesn't mind playing the 1 or 2 (not behind firewall at this writing). Hear that Tyler?
  • Speaking of Dorsey, despite my advice, apparently Steve Alford hasn't contacted him after Dorsey decommitted from Arizona.
