Women's Tennis Wins Pac-10
After overcoming a season of injuries, #6 ranked UCLA women's tennis (17-5; 7-1 Pac-10) has won the Pac-10 title for the first time in school history. They clinched a share (with either Stanford or Cal) earlier today with a 5-2 win over #10 USC (17-6; 5-3) on Senior Day.
The day began with the Bruins taking the double's point. (I'm not sure how, as I wasn't there yet, and there's no story yet, so that'll have to wait.) In singles play, freshman Andrea Remynse extended the lead to 2-0 with a simple 6-1, 6-1 victory in the #3 position. The Trojans caught back up with a win in the #4 slot, beating junior Ashley Joelson in straight sets. Senior Alex McGoodwin then put the Bruins on the brink of victory with a win as #6.
Soon after, fellow senior Tracy Lin (ranked #32 nationally) clinched the match with a straight set victory of her own, despite early jitters in each set. Elizabeth Lumpkin added gloss to the final scorline with a victory in the #5 match after coming back from losing the first set. Unfortunately, it was not a perfect day for the seniors, as Pac-10 Player of the Week and national #11 Riza Zalameda fell in the third set, 5-7, 7-6, 10-8 with the match already decided.
This win was the second over USC on the year for the women's tennis team, the first time they swept the Trojans since 2000. Next up for the team is the NCAA tourney, with selections announced in two weeks. Several Bruins will also presumably compete in the individual Pac-10 Championship tourney next weekend in Ojai.

NFL Experience in the Pac-10
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
In light of Coach Neuheisel rounding out his staff with the hiring of 13-year NFL veteran Tim Hauck as secondary coach, I compiled a list of total overall NFL experience among the coaching staffs of the Pac-10. Here is that list, cross posted from my comment on the diary noting the hiring:
- UCLA: 70 years total (24 years playing, 46 years coaching)
- Stanford: 58 years (24 playing, 34 coaching)
- USC: 50 total (21 playing, 29 coaching)
- Washington: 38 total (8 playing, 30 coaching)
- Arizona State: 32 total (3 playing, 29 coaching)
- Cal: 13 total (7 playing, 6 coaching)
- Oregon State: 13 total (1 playing, 12 coaching)
- Washington State: 13 total (13 playing, 0 coaching)
- Oregon: 6 total (0 playing, 6 coaching)
- Arizona: 4 total (3 playing, 1 coaching)
-Wayne Moses trained as an FBI agent.
-Reggie Moore worked as a paramedic and fire fighter for 8 years.
-Over half of USC's years come from Pete Carroll and Ken Norton.
-Oregon State features a Graduate Assistant with 29 years experience in High School sports.
-Much of Arizona State's experience comes from the coaches who have traveled with Dennis Erickson around football.
-Oregon State probably had the most experience in the other forms of professional football (excluding the USC form, that is).
A little of my methodology:
-Taken from official bios on school web sites, and, at times, wikipedia.
-Totals do not include the many (many, many) years spent playing/coaching in Canada, USFL, Europe, or Arena Football.
-Totals also do not include time spent in NFL intern programs.
-I was sporadic in some of my counting of playing years, and team sites weren't always clear about whether or not a coach had actually been on a roster during the season.
-Totals do include Graduate Assistants.
