the Arizona loss from a historical perspective

Dorrell gracing us with Lavin like records. Nice work M. - Nestor

Losing a game to a bad team (a team that ends the year with a losing record) is a very bad thing.
It's also quite rare.  Since Red Sanders started in 1949, it's only happened 32 times (in 623 games). Here are all the losses (15) that were by more than 7 points, ranked by point differential:

  1. Cal (3-8) wins by 8 pts. (46-38)
  2. WSU (3-8) wins by 9 pts. (24-15)
  3. OSU (4-7) wins by 9 pts. (23-14)
  4. Air Force (4-5-1) wins by 9 pts. (24-15)
  5. Iowa (3-8) wins by 11 pts. (21-10)
  6. USC (4-6) wins by 11 pts. (17-6)
  7. Notre Dame (2-7) wins by 15 pts. (27-12)
  8. Cal (4-7) wins by 17 pts. (17-0)
  9. OSU (5-6) wins by 17 pts. (34-17)
  10. Arizona (5-6) wins by 18 pts. (35-17)
  11. Cal (4-7) wins by 19 pts. (26-7)
  12. Washington (5-6) wins by 22 pts. (31-9)
  13. Cal (4-5-1) wins by 25 pts. (25-0)
  14. Cal (4-7) wins by 36 pts. (48-12)
  15. Arizona (?-?) wins by 38 pts. (52-14)
This is arguably the worst showing in 57 years...
