Summer Bruin hoops notes

Back to the uplifting topic in BN - Bruin hoops.  Frank Burlison posted his notes on sizzling high school summer hoops action over at Long Beach Press Telegram, which includes notes on Bruin commit James Keefe, and recruits like Chase Buddinger and Taylor King (the former Bruin commit who has opened the whole process up). Take a look:

Santa Margarita's (and future UCLA Bruin) James Keefe played as about as well as you'll ever see a high school center perform during his team's 67-65 overtime loss to Dominguez in a semifinal Sunday morning.

Keefe went for 22 points, 14 rebounds and five assists while blocking eight Dons' shot attempts.

He'll have an excellent chance of starting in one of the post positions for Coach Ben Howland during his 2006-07 freshman season.

Chase Budinger, the 6-6 senior-to-be at La Costa Canyon who is the brother of Long Beach State volleyball standout Duncan Budinger, is also scheduled to play in Richmond.

Budinger, who has narrowed his college choices to Arizona, UCLA and USC, participated in Coach Tim Floyd's Trojans' camp on the USC campus this past weekend.
Chase is going to be a tough battle.  But I have a good feeling Howland is going to win this recruiting battle beating out Lute (who will most likely be retiring very soon) and Timmy Floyd, who will just have to get used to Bruins kicking his ass year in and year out all over Pauley and the Gallen Center (or whatever they are calling their newest dump-to-be in South Central) floors.

Also, from the same article Stanford's Chris Hernandez has withdrawn his name from the NBA draft. That's good news for Stanford (they will certainly be the co-favorites along with Zona to win the conference), but is also good news for us - Jordan and co. get two more chances (at least) to exact revenge for last year.  Man ... cannot wait for the hoops season.

GO BRUINS.
