UCLA @ ND: 1964 = 2006?

Okay. This is kind of a good news/bad news kind of deal.

First of all here is the bad news. Check out the footage of UCLA-Notre Dame game last time these two teams faced of 1964. Bruins lost that game 0-24:

But here is the good news. There may be some similarities between 1964 and 2006. Bruins actually went into South Bend with a (deceptively?) decent 3-1 record. But after getting mauled by the Irish, Bruins went on to lose 4 out of their last 5 games, finishing the season with a record of 4-6. Why is that good news? Well it ended up being Coach Bill Barnes' last season at UCLA who got fired by the end of the season. The firing of Bill Barnes let to the hiring of Tommy Protho, one of the best coaches in the history of Bruin football.

BTW as you can see this is not the first time Bruins and Irish are squaring off in football. A Trojan blogger, who posts in AOL's fanblog covering UCLA missed this basic fact proclaiming:

For the first time ever, the University of Southern California's two main rivals--UCLA and Notre Dame--play each other in football. Although the two schools squared off in basketball back in 1995, we imagine that there are a number of Trojan fans who, like us in the USC Fan House are conflicted as to which team to root for this weekend.
So Trojans are morons. Then again it's probably not a surprise considering so many of the Trojan fans in Los Angeles are band wagoners who don't know anything about college football. We knew that already. But still pretty freaking hillarious.

Anyways back to the video.

Will the history repeat itself in 2006?

GO BRUINS.
