THE NEXT STEP

The main desire of BruinsNation.com ("BN") has been and will remain the continued success of UCLA Athletics in all areas.

While this may come as a surprise to most readers, the writers of BN believe that the termination of Karl Dorrell's employment as UCLA's Head Football Coach is not a cause for celebration, gloating, or cheering.

Although we have been highly critical of his job performance, it is always unfortunate when a person loses his job, particularly if that person is a fellow Bruin.

We respect and appreciate Mr. Dorrell's efforts to improve the program off the field of play, but regret that his decisions did not lead to consistent performance and sustained improvement on the field.

Mr. Dorrell acted honorably in the handling of his release, and we sincerely wish him well in his future endeavors.

We here at BN believe that what is important now is a well-planned and well-executed coaching search, so that we can avoid having to revisit this situation in the next five years.

We hope that Athletics Director Dan Guerrero and the rest of the UCLA Administration make a sound and timely decision, and hire the best-qualified candidate to serve as our next Head Football Coach.

GO BRUINS.
