Bruin Baseball In The OC

New, 3 comments

Our baseball team is back in action tonight. Bruins get to take on Savage's (and DG's) former program today at UCI. Anteaters are also one of the few teams who have gotten best of Bruins during their recent hot-streak. From the DB:

When UCLA (24-18, 10-2 Pac-10) plays UC Irvine tonight at 6 p.m. in Irvine, the Bruins have a chance to get back at one of the few teams that bested them in April.

In the teams’ first meeting, the Anteaters beat the Bruins 5-4 on April 10 at Jackie Robinson after coming back from an early deficit.

Right-hander Garett Claypool (1-0) will be taking the mound for UCLA in his sixth midweek start of the season. The freshman has struck out 15 hitters in 19.2 innings as a starter while allowing just four walks.

Irvine is coming off of a series win at home against UC Davis, winning 16-7 to dominate the rubber game.

The Anteaters have been playing strong baseball as of late, taking five of their last seven games.

"They’re very competitive and they’re different from most teams," third baseman Jermaine Curtis said.

"They bunt more. They drag, they push," he said.
More info on tonight's game over at the official site. Again here is a quick recap on the baseball team's recent torrid hot streak:
UCLA has won 16 of its last 20 games, the program's best 20-game stretch since 1997...the Bruins have won nine of their last 11 games, including three-game sweeps of USC and CSUN...at 10-2 in the Pac-10, UCLA has registered its best conference start since the 1924 season...the Bruins have won six of their last seven road games, including sweeps of USC and Stanford...UCLA has won six-consecutive conference road games for the first time since 1969...for the first time in program history, UCLA has swept back-to-back three-game Pac-10 road series...UCLA's 16-4 stretch began when the Bruins scored a school-record 14 runs in the eighth inning to overcome an 8-0 deficit against Pacific (March 25).
So if you live/work around the OC head out to UCI. First pitch gets underway around 6 pm.

GO BRUINS.
