It's nice to see that our womens' basketball team had a good win against Stanford yesterday as well. Per the LA Times:
The UCLA women's basketball team came of age Friday night. With three freshmen and a sophomore in the starting lineup, the Bruins knocked off No. 2 Stanford, 69-56, in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Pauley Pavilion. It was the program's first victory over such a highly ranked team.
Darxia Morris, a freshman guard, scored a team-high 20 points and Lindsey Pluimer, the only senior on the team, had 13 as UCLA was in control from start to finish.
"I think our nonconference schedule prepared us for a team like Stanford," Coach Kathy Olivier said. "Our team is fearless."
Congrats to the lady Bruins on the upset.
Aside from the big win, one thing stuck out at me. A friend of mine at Pauley sent me a picture of Dan Guerrero, who apparently was in attendance. I'll post it once I resolve some code issues, but it was picture of Guerrero with a piece of paper hanging out of his back pocket. The paper read:
To Do List: Coaches-
Bob Toledo
-
Gary Adams
-
Karl Dorrell
- Kathy Olivier
I'm not sure if this is true or not. But, I sure hope so.
Of course, it's no surprise that the Bruins (7-7, 2-1 in the Pac-10) would be underperforming, but still pull out a big win against, of all teams, Stanford. Yes, the Steve Lavin of women's basketball does it again.
Now, I've heard that Olivier is a nice women. She also seems to do pretty well in recruiting. But, her teams are consistently mediocre, and don't seem to improve.
Anyway, good job ladies. Hopefully help is on the way on the coaching front, now that UCLA's house is back in order in football.
GO BRUINS.
