It looked like the Bruins were going to back up their win on Friday with a win on Saturday over Oregon St., but the Beavers struck for three runs in the ninth to beat UCLA, 5-3. Trevor Bauer had a no decision in the game after going eight innings, allowing seven hits and two runs. Gavin Brooks was tagged with the loss for the Bruins after giving up those three ninth inning runs to blow the save.

For the second consecutive game, Oregon St. scored in the first inning. This game, the Beavers plated a first inning run when Stefan Romero hit a triple off the very top of the fence in center field to score a runner from third.

In the fourth inning, Cody Decker hit a home run to lead off an inning for the second consecutive game. Decker's homer to right center field was his 15th of the season and tied the game, 1-1.

The Bruins took the lead in the next inning when Blair Dunlap hit a two out double down the left field line. After Decker walked, Casey Haerther hit a 2-2 pitch to left field to score Dunlap and put UCLA ahead by one.

Oregon St. struck back quickly though when Brett Casey came through with a pinch hit RBI single in the sixth to even the score at 2-2.

In the seventh inning, UCLA got a big pinch hit of their own. Chris Giovinazzo pinch hit for Justin Uribe and after fouling off a number of pitches, Giovinazzo stroked his first collegiate homer to right field. The home run gave UCLA a 3-2 lead and set up Brooks to get the save in the ninth.

Brooks never got in a groove though and was fighting himself as much as the Beaver hiiters. He gave up a hit to lthe leadoff man and the next batter got a sacrifice bunt down to advance the runner 90 feet. Brooks then walked the next hitter on four pitches and thre a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. After a single tied the game at three, Brooks got a strikeout for the second out. A passed ball allowed the runner on first to take second though so when Joey Wong singled up the middle, two runs scored and Oregon St. led 5-3.

That lead would hold in the ninth as the Bruins went down in order. Haerther led UCLA with two hits in his four at-bats, while Decker and Giovinazzo each had a homer. Eddie Murray had a rough day for the Bruins at the plate, going 0-3 with three strikeouts.

The Bruins and Beavers will play the rubber game of this three game set Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Charles Brewer will throw for the Bruins and Jorge will get the nod for the Beavers. First pitch will be at 1 pm PDT and the winner will be ahead of the other in the Pac 10 standings.
