Spaulding Roundup: Football News & Notes

Big day in Westwood today. UCLA is holding one day camp for high school football players from around Southland on campus. More than 200 players are expected to attend. From Eric Sondheimer in the LA Times:

Among those expected are linebacker Hayes Pullard from Crenshaw, defensive back Sean Parker from Narbonne and quarterback Ryan Kasdorf from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

Both the Bruins and USC use their one-day camps to get an up-close look at potential scholarship players. Some have already received offers and others could get one based on their performance.

Dohn has put together a list of "some of the prominent prepsters" among the 200 kids who are expected to be on campus today. Should be interesting to see if there is any news out of this camp in next couple of weeks.

We have some news on the transfer front. This time though UCLA is gaining a new player. From Tulane (where Bob Toledo is the current head coach). Per Dohn, David Alllen who went to South Pasadena High School is walking on at UCLA. Allen fwiw is listed as a safety in Tulane's official website which also mentions that he chose the Green Waves over Oregon, Colorado and UC Davis. Welcome to Westwood David.

David and his team-mates will be starting their pre-season camp this Summer on August 10. The official site has the information out:

UCLA will open its 2009 pre-season football practice on Monday, August 10. The Bruins will practice once daily from August 10 through August 14 as part of the NCAA acclimatization process.

The first practice in full pads will be Friday, August 14. Two-a-day practices will begin on Saturday, August 15. NCAA rules instituted in 2003 prohibit two practices on back-to-back days.

On Saturday, August 22, the Bruins will hold their first major scrimmage of Fall Camp. The scrimmage will be held at Drake Stadium, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

All practices between August 10 and 22 will be open to the public and all, with the exception of the August 22 scrimmage, will be on Spaulding Field. Practices beginning August 21 will be determined at a later date.

You can get the tentative practice schedule over here. It's going to be a long wait. I am ready for the season already.

GO BRUINS.
