We've talked and talked and talked. The recruits have talked and talked and talked. Everyone has done too much talking, but today guys put pen to paper and make it official. Once guys sign their National Letter of Intent, they are bound to the school they have chosen. Today, somewhere between 20 and 25 players will sign for UCLA and officially become Bruins. You can check on the entire UCLA commitment list here.
As we've mentioned plenty of times, there are seven unannounced guys that we've got to keep an eye on today. They are:
- Owamagbe Odighizuwa- DE, Portland, OR
Ricky Heimuli- DT, Salt Lake City, UT (Oregon)- Dietrich Riley- DB, La Canada, CA
- Josh Shirley- LB, Fontana, CA
- Anthony Jefferson- ATH, Los Angeles, C
- Jordan Zumwalt- LB, Huntington Beach, CA
-
Giovanni Di Poalo- OL, Ventura, CA (Southern Cal)
It is highly unlikely that the Bruins land Shirley so don't hold your breath on that one. The other six are all fair game though and we'll be waiting on them throughout the day. Di Poalo and Zumwalt will not announce their decisions, but merely sign their LOI and fax it to the school of their choice. The other six will make announcements that you can all watch. Here's your announcement schedule (all times pacific):
- 9:30 am- Rickey Heimuli, ESPNU
- 11:30 am- Owamagbe Odighizuwa, ESPNU
- 12:00 pm- Anthony Jefferson, FS Prime Ticket
- 1:30 pm- Dietrich Riley, ESPNU
- 12:35 pm- Josh Shirley, FS Prime Ticket
If you want to keep up on all the recruiting nationwide, stay tuned to ESPNU, which will have Signing Day coverage until 4 pm PST. FS Prime Ticket will have their own show with a focus on the local guys from noon until one.
Just how is CRN selling the program? His twitter says it all:
Making the final push to encourage standout SAs to join our family at my alma mater. UCLA! There's no place like it!
I don't think anyone here would disagree, Coach. So here we go. It's Signing Day and this is signing day central for UCLA fans. We'll have all the updates right here as they happen and please share any thoughts, comments or questions you have below. It will be a fun one so make it an all day affair, leading right up to our Signing Day podcast tonight at 6:30 pm PST. By the end of today, over 20 kids will sign on the dotted line for UCLA to find out why there is no place like it.
UPDATE: Giovanni Di Poalo decided to be a Trojan, but the Bruins picked up a big one in Jordan Zumwalt, beating out Stanford and USC for his services.
UPDATE II (N): WR Paul Richardson and TE John Young have sent in their LOIs. GO BRUINS.
UPDATE III (R): Here is the list of guys who have faxed in their LOI's, officially making them Bruins. We'll update this throughout the day as more LOI's come in.
