Well it's official. Rick Neuheisel has topped last year's signing day with another blockbuster recruiting class. Here was the exclamation point from a ridiculous, surreal, amazing afternoon for the Bruin Nation:
He is of course Dietrich Riley, the 4 star safety from Southern California who was a former Trojan commit, who punctuated an incredible day for Rick Neuheisel and UCLA Bruins. For all the talk of CRN just caring about offensive skill positions he has just brought into UCLA one of the most defensive minded athletic class in recent history.
Of course we will have lot more perspective on this. For now watching this video is all we need:
ALWAYS BE CLOSING. COFFEE IS FOR CLOSERS.
Congratulations to Coach Neuheisel, his staff and the entire program for an amazing signing day.
GO BRUINS.
UPDATE (N): Here is the updated here as more LOIs come in. We will leave the chart of signees at the end of the post and update as applicable. What a day. GO BRUINS.
UPDATE II (N): Gold has some very interesting info. on Shirley's flip:
I'm hearing from good sources that as soon as UCLA found out that Hayes Pullard was heading to USC, they put the full-court press on Josh Shirley. I'm told they basically sold Shirley on that spot.
I think that kind of anecdote only confirms the tenacity with which CRN is leading this program. It is already producing unimaginable results on the recruiting trail. His team is making progress in the W-L column. If he keeps improving on this season's record (especially get us a winning record in the Pac-10 next year), UCLA will be in position to do something special both on future signing days and late in the bowl season. That tenacity and competitive spirit will pay off. GO BRUINS.
UPDATE III (N): CRN in a celebratory mood:
What a terrific group of student-athletes, I'm proud to welcome these fantastic young men to our Bruin family. Its a great day to be a Bruin!
Indeed coach. GO BRUINS.
UPDATE IV (N): Riley and Shirley's LOIs are in per UCLA athletics. Official LOI number is at 22. GO BRUINS.
