The polls love us, they really love us. Well, all of them except for the NCBWA poll, which unfortunately is the one I've been going by. In the four other top 25 rankings, the Bruins are either #1 or #2 so you can bet that every opponent will be gunning for them. That starts tonight when UCLA heads to Riverside for a match-up with the Highlanders, a team that the Bruins beat 3-2 at home earlier this season.
Garett Claypool (4-1, 2.06 ERA) will reprise his role as Tuesday starter, but this isn't his normal Tuesday start. The senior got roughed up last week versus Cal St. Fullerton, allowing five first inning runs before shutting the Titans down the rest of the way. Then, Claypool picked up the win in UCLA's 16 inning victory over Oregon St. after throwing 4.2 one-hit, scoreless innings so how the right-hander holds up having thrown more than usual will be a test for him. Claypool will be opposed by Eddie Orozco, a right-handed sophomore who is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA.
Things in Riverside get underway at 6 pm PST and there are three ways to track the game. There's GameTracker, which always has you covered with the play-by-play. You can also keep track with any key plays, updates and observations on my UCLA baseball twitter. For the most in-depth following of the game, listen to the online radio stream with John Ramey on the call. As you follow along, use this thread to provide updates, thoughts, analysis or bring up some questions and comments. It's your open thread for the sensational 25-3 Bruins.
