Two games, two wins. Now, the #7 Bruins go for number three and the sweep. Last night, Trevor Bauer's complete game, two run, 13 strikeout start paired with Tyler Rahmatulla's 3-3, home run and three RBI performance at the plate to lead UCLA to a 6-2 win over #16 Arizona. The win secured the series for the Bruins and combined with Arizona St.'s 9-4 loss to Washington, moved them to just 1.5 games back of the Sun Devils in the Pac-10. Today, the Bruins will look to make it a sweep of the Wildcats and set themselves up perfectly for next weeks gargantuan series versus ASU.
Coming into the series, the numbers showed that Sunday would provide the Bruins with their best chance to pick up a win and that was because Rob Rasmussen would be starting. The junior has won his last six starts to improve to 6-0 on the season and has a 2.52 ERA. Rasmussen threw 6.1 scoreless innings last week against Oregon and has 46 strikeouts to just ten walks in this six start run of his. He will be opposed by the Daniel Workman, who is 2-0, but has struggled this season, as evidenced by his 5.96 ERA.
First pitch this afternoon is at 12 pm PDT and you can follow along with it on GameTracker. You can also stay updated on my UCLA baseball twitter and it looks as if this site will have a free stream of the ballgame for those of you who want to watch. The chance to pick up a series sweep on the road is key and to do it against a Pac-10 team and a top 20 team nationally would be a major resume boost. This is your baseball open thread so share whatever you've got, be it updates, analysis, thoughts, questions, whatever. It's all yours.
