It is halftime at the Rose Bowl, with the Bruins trailing Washington State 7-9 (Boxscore). Washington State got the opening kickoff and drove to the UCLA 4 yard line, before settling for a field goal. After trading punts with the Bruins for a while, WSU got inside the UCLA 10 yard line in their final 2 possessions of the half, making field goals to finish both possessions - though not without some SPTR help in the final drive, with a questionable penalty on UCLA negating a missed Wazzu kick.

Meanwhile, the Bruins are going to have to win this game without Richard Brehaut. After a couple of 3-and-outs, Brehaut had the offense moving downfield until suffering what is currently thought to be a high ankle sprain. Don:t expect him to return tonight. Kevin Prince came into the game and made a quick un-Prince-like 41 yard throw to Rosario. Derrick Coleman ran the ball in 2 plays later for the Bruins lone score of the half - with Tyler Gonzalez making his debut with a perfect extra point. Kevin ended the half by throwing an interception in the end zone to keep the margin at WSU-plus 2 heading into the locker room.

The play of the Bruins in the first half is far from the best that these players are capable of, but this is still a game that UCLA has no excuse to let slip. While KP had struggled against the Texas Defense and IMO is legitimately the #2 behind Brehaut, he has shown the ability to win tough games, and this should not even be that tough of a half to win.

Enjoy the second half, and GO BRUINS!

Update - It is now being reported that Brehaut has a fractured leg. Damnit.
