UCLA Coaching Hot Stove: Bruins Get a Bowling "Waiver," Leach to Washington State

So this just in. UCLA is going "bowling":

The NCAA today approved the UCLA football team's petition for a bowl waiver should the Bruins not defeat Oregon on Friday, December 2 in the inaugural Pac-12 Conference Championship Game.

"As a program, we appreciate the NCAA approving our petition for a bowl waiver," said UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero. "We will be able to give our 18 seniors one more chance to represent their university and end their collegiate careers on a high note, regardless of the outcome of this Friday's Pac-12 Championship Game. We'd like to thank the NCAA for considering the unique situation in which we find ourselves this year and rewarding us with this opportunity."

Nice timing Guerrero - officially hoisting the white flag before Friday's game.

Of course UCLA has more important things on their mind now. The pressure just got ratcheted up on Chianti Dan as Washington State just hired Leach for reportedly a 5 yr K, making him the 3rd-highest paid coach in the Pac-12. Good for them. This is a fantastic hire for the Cougars. Shame on Chianti Dan and his lieutenants if turns out that Leach didn't even get a whiff from UCLA.

As we said earlier today in our message to Gene Block. Chianti Dan better close with a top tier coach. The margin of error for him is now effectively at 0. It will be inexcusable if the Bruins end up with an unproven coach, or some guy who has traveled around or a retread without giving a coach like Mike Leach a serious look.

GO BRUINS.
