My letter to the UCLA Fund

I received an email today requesting a donation to the UCLA Fund. Rather than just ignoring it, I sent the following email response. I urge all fellow Bruins to do the same.

To whom it may concern:

I am a proud alumnus of UCLA (BS Biology, 1993), and my UCLA experience was something that has shaped my life.

However, I am currently extremely disappointed by the actions of Athletic Director Dan Guerrero and Chancellor Gene Block. Their continued apathy and blind guidance of the UCLA athletic program is disgusting, embarrassing, and frankly unbecoming of a world-class university such as ours.

Until significant changes are made by Chancellor Block to address the incompetent leadership at Morgan Center, starting with the immediate termination of Athletic Director Guerrero, I will not be making any donations to UCLA.

I realize this may seem harsh, as there is much more to UCLA than athletics. However, as a Bruin no longer living in Southern California, my best experiences of the university are strengthened when I see our athletic teams compete on a national stage.

Until Chancellor Block understands that the public face of UCLA is not just the UCLA Medical Center, I will respectfully withhold any monetary contributions to my Alma Mater.
