Bruin Bites: UCLA-San Jose State Gameday Edition

New, comments

It's Saturday, which means it's time for some Bruin football.  Our game doesn't get underway until 7:00 p.m. PST at the Rose Bowl.  The pre-game watching thread will go up in an hour or so, so stay tuned.  Today's opponent will be the San Jose State Spartans, giving the Bruins a chance to bounce back after a close loss to Case Keenum and the Cougars in Houston.

Before we get to the pre-game thread, let's take a look at some of the bits and pieces of football news from around the UCLA-iverse:

  • Jon Gold has some really good notes on Anthony Barr, the F-Back position, and the need to utilize him in a more extensive role against the Spartans. In the same quick piece, Gold quoted Richard Brehaut, who is out to show people that he can be as effective as a running QB in the pistol as Kevin Prince.  Let's hope so.
  • Peter Yoon at ESPN has a good preview of today's game, which he expects will be a solid Bruin victory.  Yoon notes that UCLA will have a major advantage in the trenches, with the Bruins' offensive line averaging 50 pounds more (at average, 314 pounds) than the Spartans' defensive line (averaging 266 pounds).  Yoon points out that SJSU has a few playmakers, but don't be surprised if Rick takes advantage of the advantage along the line and runs the ball down the throat of the Spartans.
  • Those are your pre-game Bruin Bites.  Sit tight and the pre-game thread will be up soon.  If you can't make it to Pasadena today, we have all the latest information on where to watch the game with fellow Bruins here.  If you haven't done so already, make sure you get your pre-game guesses in before kick-off at 7 p.m.

Let's get to it.  Enjoy your Saturday full of college football action.
