#DefendOurLogo: And We Win!

gilbert links it up in the comment section:

In the spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship and at the request of the UCLA Athletic Department, the USC Trojan Marching Band drum major will not stab the field before the game Saturday.

It was decided by Trojan Marching Band Director Dr. Arthur C. Bartner after meeting with UCLA game management that it was in the best interest of both universities to suspend this tradition at this game.

Once again, huge thanks to Class of 66 and JoeBruin15 for taking the lead on this. As some of you are aware, there is already a lot of Trogan angst swirling around this decision, but it's important to keep in mind what we have maintained all along: this is our decision to make. It's our field and our home stadium and we make the rules. As hard as we've been on Dan Guerrero, it's more likely than not that he had involvement in this, and he deserves credit for listening to Bruin fans everywhere and taking steps to stop their "tradition" carried out at our expense.

As a side programming note, the aforementioned Trogan angst has also dredged up a few new Southern Cal-affiliated accounts in the past few hours, the timing of which suggests that they are here to complain in some fashion about this decision. If this is the case, don't waste your time. If, however, you are here to engage in a respectful manner, showing proper deference to our school/logo/mascot/whatever, then you are more than welcome to participate.
