New Year's Eve Bowl Open Thread

The final day of 2012 features several bowl games, as well as the bonus of an afternoon UCLA Women's Basketball game.

Welcome to the last day of 2012, Bruins Nation! I hope that you all don't have too many responsibilities to worry about today. But before the obligatory parties and other festivities of the evening, there is College Football to watch.

There are a total of 4 bowl games being played today - two of which are currently in progress.

  • Music City Bowl - Vanderbilt v. North Carolina State, Nashville TN (ESPN): Vandy got to stay home for one more game this season, and has taken advantage this afternoon. Early in the 4th quarter, the Commodores lead the Wolfpack 31-17.
  • Sun Bowl - Georgia Tech v. Southern Cal, El Paso TX (CBS): The trogans have done their best over the past few days to denigrate the city of El Paso and shame the Sun Bowl organizers... before even taking the field this morning. The game is currently scoreless, late in the 1st quarter.
  • Liberty Bowl - Iowa State v. Tulsa, Memphis TN (12:30pm Pacific, ESPN): Yes folks, a team that finished 3-6 in its conference gets an NYE bowl slot. While pushing Larry Scott to improve the Pac-12 bowl tie-ins, keep in mind that Tom Hansen left him a massive hole to dig us out of.
  • Chick-Fil-A Bowl - Clemson v. LSU, Atlanta GA (4:30pm Pacific, ESPN): This is the major game of the day - a pair of 10-win, top-15 ranked teams. For the BN'ers not in major exile, we don't have to decide between NYE partying and watching the game (not on a phone screen).
There is also a Bruins' Women's Basketball game this afternoon at Pauley - 1pm vs. St. Joseph's. The game can be streamed via the Pac-12 website.

This is your open thread for all of today's games, bowls or otherwise.

Go Bruins!
