Jordan Payton was the first rocket boost for Bruin Nation this morning. Now the NSD festivities just got another huge boost in Bruin Nation with the commitment of WR Javon Williams! Just a little while ago Javon picked up the UCLA hat (over Arkansas and Oregon) with a loud cheer from his family.
Javon is another huge get for this year's recruiting class. WRs were an area of need and as the recruiting period went on, it looked as though we'd be thin at that position. But this staff just does not quit. Now with the commitments of Payton and Williams we are looking good. We may not be done yet though as UCLA is still in the running for Randall Goforth and may be more!
A 6'5" wide receiver out of Arizona, Javon comes from Chandler HS, the same high school as Brett Hundley. He is touted as a "red zone weapon", and the football gods know that we need one badly! He's a 3-star recruit on Scout and a 4-star on Rivals (who compares him to former Trogan Mike Williams), with great size and good speed.
So let's all give a massive collective 8-clap for Javon Williams and welcome him to UCLA!
More after the jump.
Williams was down to choosing between Arkansas and UCLA. If he was recruited so heavily by Bobby Petrino, you have to think this kid could be something special in a spread oriented offensive scheme. He seemed destined to Arkansas until he visited UCLA on January 27th. Coach Mora's staff was simply relentless, I love the attitude of not giving up on any recruit and of addressing an area of need, even at such a late stage.
You can keep tracking the signees on the official site here. Also, keep eyes on the lists on BRO and BruinBlitz.
Let's continue the fun in a fresh open thread.
