UCLA finally got a Friday night win, defeating Sacramento St., 5-2, last night. It was their first Friday night win of the season, meaning that they get to go into Saturday in search of a series win instead of hanging on for dear life. It's a nice change and a chance to extend their four-game winning streak. Speaking of streaks, Jeff Gelalich and Tyler Heineman will be looking to extend nine-game hit streaks in the contest.
The Bruins will send Nick Vander Tuig to the bump in search of the series win. He surrendered three runs in 5.2 innings last week as he continues to make the transition from the bullpen to starter. He'll be opposed by Tanner Mendonca, the Hornets' best pitcher who has allowed just one earned run in 16 innings this season. The Bruin offense is going to be tested today.
If you're not at Jackie Robinson Stadium because you're not in LA or have something against sitting out in the sun when it's 75 degrees, John Ramey and Tim Wilhelm have the call online. You can also get all the updates, notes and observations from my UCLA baseball twitter. This is your baseball open thread so have at it.
