Well, that didn't go as planned. UCLA was hoping to get off to a quick start against Oregon, but instead they got beat down pretty good. The 6-2 score didn't accurately reflect the game. The Ducks were clean and crisp, while the Bruins had poor at-bats, left men on base, made errors and suffered through the worst start of the season for Adam Plutko. All in all, it was a game to forget, but it matters. The Bruins are down in the series and need to get even tonight before they even think about trying to win it tomorrow.
The Bruins will send Nick Vander Tuig to the mound in hopes of evening things up. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 4.30 ERA so he needs to sharpen up, and he better be sharp against Aaron Jones, who killed UCLA last night. Opposite Vander Tuig will be Jake Reed, Oregon's sensational freshman. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 2.22 ERA so the Bruins are going to be in for a major test tonight.
If you won't be at the Jack tonight then you can still catch the game with John Ramey and Tim Wilhelm, who will have the call online. You can also get all the game updates, notes, observations and all the other goodies from my UCLA baseball twitter. This is your open thread as the Bruins try to get even with the Ducks so share updates as well as your thoughts and reactions here.
