UCLA Basketball: Closing in on Bruins Top Recruiting Target Zach Lavine

Zach Lavine One of the Countries BEST! (via ZachLavine18)

It has been years since UCLA has recruited a true Point Guard. It is close to receiving a verbal from one of the biggest rising stars of the 2013 class, Zach Lavine.

The Bothell (Wash.) star took a visit Friday to UCLA and liked what he saw. The Bruins are now firmly in place at the top of LaVine's list.

"That's very accurate," LaVine said. "I just was up there today on a recruiting visit. It was very beautiful and I met the coaches, had a nice talk and had a nice visit. It's just real nice up there."

The only "problem" with Lavine is he may be out growing the position. As I mentioned in my last post on him, last month his height was listed anywhere from 5'11" to 6'3". Well there is apparently a good reason:

Following the trip to Westwood, LaVine likely opened some eyes with his size, skill and ability to put the ball in the basket during the opening round of games at Pangos. He is pushing 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds, up two inches and nearly 20 pounds from last summer.

Regardless of where Lavine ends up position wise, he can score from anywhere:

*Zach LaVine (6-3/2013/Bothell, WA, Bothell): It didn't take him long to firmly establish that his shooting range extended to, say, Pacific Coast Highway. And the form and quickness of his release are impeccable as well.

Even before the season, UCLA fans will have another chance to see if Howland is turning things around or if this year's class was just a fluke as Lavine will decide in August.

I would be happy with a 6'4"+ PG.

Go Bruins.
