Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen, we're finally here: the first time our Bruins will take the court not under the direction of someone named Ben Howland in the past decade (just in case you're curious, Howland is still without a job, but recently took in a practice at his old stomping grounds at Pitt). Instead, the man who flamed out in the Big Ten and who didn't get hired at his dream job - Indiana - not once, but twice (losing out to Kelvin Sampson in 2006 and Tom Crean in 2008), will lead our Bruins on to the floor at Pauley Pavilion tonight against Cal State San Bernardino in the first of two exhibition games before the regular season tips off.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST and unfortunately, unless you go down to Westwood, you won't be able to watch the game. Instead, you can catch live audio online through the official website, with Dave Marcus doing the play-by-play and joined by Tracy Murray.
There isn't much to the match-up, other than a chance to give the Bruins some valuable tune-up time for the games that actually count. Of course, anything but a dominating win will add even more cause for concern in Alford's already-troubled reign in Westwood. The official site has a preview of the game here, and notably the last time UCLA faced CSU San Bernardino, the Bruins barely squeaked out a 80-72 win in 2011.
So, if you're planning on listening in or following the game, feel free to fire away in the open thread as the Bruins get another season of men's hoops underway in Pauley Pavilion tonight.
Let the Steve Alford disaster show begin.
